About this listen

'A stunning debut. Weaving together a cast of loveable rogues, a richly detailed historical setting, and a cinematic thrill ride of a story, Medici Heist knocked us flat!'
The Duffer Brothers, creators of Netflix's STRANGER THINGS

'Riotously readable'
the Guardian

Welcome to Florence, 1517, a world of intrigue and opulence, murder and betrayal.
Sharp-witted conwoman Rosa Cellini arrives in the city the same day that the Medici Pope, Leo X, returns to take up the reins of power. This is not a coincidence. The new Pope is extorting a mountain of indulgence money from the people of Florence to bolster his power and standing, and Rosa has a plan to take it back.

To pull off the Renaissance's greatest robbery, she'll recruit a team of highly skilled misfits: Sarra the tinkerer, Khalid the fighter, and Giacomo, the irrepressible master of disguise. But as the authorities draw closer and the Medici's noose pulls tighter around the land, old secrets resurface and tensions in the group start to flare. What began as a robbery could be the key to saving the city itself - if Rosa and company don't destroy each other first.

Get ready for an absolute swashbuckling riot, beginning with a 'mud' pie to the Pope's face, and ending with a climactic heist that would give Danny Ocean a run for his money. Bursting with action, Medici Heist is your next un-put-downable obsession.

'I can't remember the last time I had as much fun with a book . . . I couldn't put this down!'

Critic reviews

I was thrilled by the expertly planned heist, inspired by the ragtag crew of Davids standing up to Goliath, and utterly charmed by the relationships that bloomed between these unforgettable characters. Whether you love scrappy heroes, chosen families, swoon-worthy romances, or heart-pounding action, Medici Heist has it all.
If you've ever wanted to hold a fun, daring, historically rich heist movie in the palm of your hands - pick up this book.
[A] brilliantly plotted adventure! Medici Heist is a fun, rollicking escapade through Renaissance Florence that will leave you wanting more
I can't remember the last time I had as much fun with a book as I did with MEDICI HEIST. Caitlin Schneiderhan takes readers on a wild, sumptuous tour of historical Florence, packed with cinematic action and helmed by a gang of lovable misfits and outsiders who come together to pull off an impossible heist. I couldn't put this down!
A stunning debut for Caitlin Schneiderhan. Weaving together a cast of loveable rogues, a richly detailed historical setting, and a cinematic thrill ride of a story, Medici Heist knocked us flat. Let's hope this is the first of many epic adventures for Rosa and her crew - because we need more!
Clever turns of phrase, cleverer schemes. You don't want to miss the most brilliant heist of several centuries
A riotously readable YA historical fantasy caper

Though the era and the venue is quite over-used in films - there are so many other interesting eras, events and people in history - the plot is still fresh and captivating.
Sara Alexander brings the characters to life vividly and colourfully. Finally an English narrator who is authentic in a different language. Thank you!
Update: I also read the book to fully understand the story, and I found it a bit too Hollywood screenplay-like; see the ending scenes, ie. Also breaking the parallel storylines into pieces was rather annoying while reading, though they might work well in a film.

Great book, brilliant narration

A proper old fashioned heist. Does what it says on the tin and does it really well. The author pulls together seemingly endless plots and subplots brilliantly. Half the time I had no idea what was happening let alone how the whole thing would come together but of course it did and enjoyably so. A minor complaint but there were no raccoons in Europe in the medieval period and generally still aren’t! I struggled with the narrator a bit because her female characters sounded a bit similar.

Good fun

Really struggled to get into this story and not feeling very engaged with the character or plot. Narration jarring as English accent that switched to Italian at mention of the character names. Story just didn’t engage me enough.

Wanted to love this but just didn’t work for me
