Summary

Corby Mackentile is a 15-year-old girl who attends a private school. She has been bullied because of her weight since she was 12, especially by the most popular girls. Her parents - her mother is a TV anchor and her father is a Buddhist who owns a butcher shop - are too busy with their own problems to pay attention to their only daughter. Corby has a crush on one of the most popular boys in school. He makes fun of her once, but then unexpectedly apologizes. From that moment, her situation with three of the popular girls becomes worse. Then, one day, one of the girls who had bullied Corby comes to the butcher shop where Corby works for her father after school. Again, the girl teases Corby about her weight, but this time everything is different.

Enjoyable and suspenseful!

I thought it was a good story, but found myself thinking that the characters kept acting more like adults than 15yr olds, but maybe that’s just me.
This isn’t a book I would have picked up to listen to by any stretch of the imagination , but thought I’d give it a go as I’ve enjoyed Stephanie’s other performances. Again, I found myself unable to put it down and kept finding excuses to pick it back up again. Stephanie does a fantastic job of keeping me engrossed in genres that I don’t usually have an active interest in. Overall, a really good listen and I enjoyed it!

Full of unexpected twists!

Would you consider the audio edition of Mean Girl to be better than the print version?

The book had me engaged from the moment I started listening. The imagery is vivid and you feel as though you are witnessing the whole scene. This is my third book and just like the others, I can't stop listening until I have finished!

What did you like best about this story?

Well developed characters and vivid imagery.

Have you listened to any of Stephanie Dillard’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The narrator is always engaging.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The ending was unexpected.

Any additional comments?

Looking forward to the next book by the author.

Interesting right from the beginning!

Where does Mean Girl rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

On a scale of 1-10, it's about an 8.

What did you like best about this story?

I could see how the character behaved the way she did. The bullying was frustrating to me because I wish she could have been stronger and stood up for herself. This just goes to show that whatever happens in middle school or high school doesn't matter because the popular kids don't always grow up to be popular, and the bullied kids can grow into a different person altogether. Everything changes after you graduate.

Which character – as performed by Stephanie Dillard – was your favorite?

Colby. Though I wish I could speak for her sometimes.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! But I didn't have enough time. It only took me 2 days to get through it though. I listened while I was cleaning the house, in my car on my way to pick up my kids from school, and just about any free moment I had.

Any additional comments?

I was wondering how it was going to end, though the ending was somewhat predictable. I kind of wish some things were different but what can you do. Justice doesn't always come for everyone.

WHAT?! 😠

This book really had me riveted-- up until the end. I can honestly say that the ending ruined the whole book for me. Thanks a lot. 😠 But I have to admit, the narration was awesome.
