About this listen

Romantic, poignant and endearingly honest throughout, Me Before You is the bittersweet tale of an unusual but powerful love. Often funny, sometimes bitterly sad, it won't leave you the same person you were when you began.

Shortlisted for: Popular Fiction Book of the Year – Specsavers National Book Awards 2012

Lou Clark knows a lot of things. She knows she likes working in The Buttered Bun tea shop, and she might not love her boyfriend Patrick. Will Traynor knows his motorcycle accident took away his desire to live, and now everything feels small and joyless. What Will doesn't know is that Lou is about to burst into his world. And neither of them knows they're going to change the other for all time.

The only negative criticism I have is that I think the cover and synopsis give the impression that this is a frothy romance. This does not give a true flavour of what the reader/listener should expect from this story. I urge anybody considering this book to look at the other reviews and then buy it - it is that good. This may be a piece of fiction but the characters are real and loveable and I really cared about their story. I finished listening last night and I cannot stop thinking about the themes it covers and the situation faced by Will and Lou. The fact that people in everyday life are dealing with this makes it all the more thought provoking and I know I will be far less judgemental when I read any related news articles in the future.

My heart is still aching but in the best way possible.

Went far beyond my expectations

This is one of the best books I have listened to. It is well researched, well written, a very good story and well narrated, what more can you ask for in a book?

It is a story of the devastating and permanent effects of a spinal injury on not only the person, but family, friends and others. Having experienced this, I wasn't sure if I could read it, but very soon I realised that it had been well researched and I could trust the author. The story takes us through the growing and deepening relationship between Louisa, the young companion/carer and Will. It is a love story, but so much more and takes us to that wonderful place where two people who wouldn't have met, meet and help each other in so many ways. Me before you, when you put someone else's needs first, because not only do you want them, but you also want them to be happy. The ending is the right ending, all credit goes to the author because it would have been easy to take another route.

This book made me smile, cry and think, long after I had finished it. If you like a story about real human relationships in all their glory, read this one.

Me Before You - a wonderful read

wonderful moving story of the class divide and compassion ,which shows that sadly love does not always conquer all.

wonderful read and could not put it down!

Such a difficult topic to write a narrative about but Jojo Moyes does it with such integrity. It's a beautiful story and in places I literally had to tell myself to keep breathing. I evangelise about this book to all my literacy loving friends.
I nearly didn't give it a 5 star rating only because I found the narrators voice of the girl off putting at first but for the story it is definitely deserves a 5 and the narrative will hopefully win you over like it did me.

A story that literally took my breath away
