Summary

From the acclaimed author of Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo comes a breathtaking novel about a young woman whose fate hinges on the choice she makes after bumping into an old flame; in alternating chapters, we see two possible scenarios unfold—with stunningly different results.

At the age of 29, Hannah Martin still has no idea what she wants to do with her life. She has lived in six different cities and held countless jobs since graduating college. On the heels of leaving another city, Hannah moves back to her hometown of Los Angeles and takes up residence with her best friend, Gabby. Shortly after, Hannah goes out to a bar one night with Gabby and meets up with her high school boyfriend, Ethan.

Just after midnight, Gabby asks Hannah if she’s ready to go. A moment later, Ethan offers to give her a ride later if she wants to stay. Hannah hesitates. What happens if she leaves with Gabby? What happens if she leaves with Ethan?

In concurrent story lines, Hannah lives out the effects of each decision. Quickly, these parallel universes develop into radically different stories with large-scale consequences for Hannah, as well as the people around her. As the two alternate realities run their course, Maybe in Another Life raises questions about fate and true love: is anything meant to be? Is there such a thing as a soul mate? Hannah believes there is. And, in both worlds, she’s found him.

Not the best storyline

When you become invested in a storyline and the ending really bugs you The narrative was all about pre accident and after This love of her life just did a tailspin because she discovered she was pregnant l didn't find that plausible or just falling for a nurse Then the two endings Big parties Everyone is happy Choose a husband like Choose a family She discarded her own for moving to dreary London So l felt deflated and disappointed with this story

Enjoyed this

I’m a fan of TJR and enjoyed this book. However I did get frustrated by the number of references to cinnamon rolls lol

Bit boring

No major plot twists, quite a bland read! The amount they go on about cinnamon rolls - annoying!!!

Entertaining

An easy listen, which I did enjoy, it’s obviously a sliding doors scenario. The only problem I had throughout was that I couldn’t believe the situation that created the sliding doors. I just kept thinking to myself “who does that?!”

Loved it

Great story, easy to listen to. I really enjoyed it, ending was fairly predictable but even so I'd recommend it.

Great book

Really well written enjoyable book. He said, she said, dialogue could have done with some more variation, otherwise, great.

A good read.

Not quite as spectacular as Daisy Jones or Carrie Sotto but a worthy light read! X

A good listen but:

Overall I enjoyed the story and found myself drawn into the lives of Hannah, Gabby, Ethan,& Charlamaine however some things grated:
1: the male voices- they were truly terrible sounding like Grandpa Simpson in all cases. 2: the way it was implied that it rains ALL the time in the Uk it was ok to mention it once but it was mentioned every time London was spoken about.
3: if there really is such a person as “The One” then shouldn’t Hannah have finished up with the same guy in both scenarios like Gabby did?
4: I agree with other reviews of the overuse of Cinnamon rolls “Cinnamon rolls were the main character” 🤣
On the whole it was a light enjoyable, passes the time sort of read. I may listen to it again, or I may not…

Fabulous read, though a tad confusing

I really enjoyed this actually. I will say listening to the first perspective change (aka the different side of the coin) really confused me. But I love the idea of the universe and soulmates so this was a fun speedy one x
