Summary

After a Sweet 16 ceremony, Reyna Clifton - the mother of the birthday girl - is found severely injured at the bottom of the grand staircase of the Regal Phoenix Resort and Spa.

The Clifton family blames the resort for Reyna’s fall and sues for negligence. Daniel Mendoza and his firm are called in to defend the lawsuit, but when Mrs. Clifton is found dead in her hospital room, Daniel's suspicions arise.

With the help of his legal team and a private investigator, Daniel is determined to find out what really happened to Mrs. Clifton. But who would have wanted to murder her, and is there some other foul play involved?

It was okay.

Although the story was an interesting one, I found it difficult due to the narration style. The narration didn't flow well and came across as rather impassive.

Moving on from Chambers Lane.

This first book about Daniel Mendoza after he moves on from the Chambers Lane series was quite enjoyable. I found the beginning a little tedious when it was all about the sweet 16 ceremony/party and I think it could have been covered in far less depth. Once the story got going however it was very good and entertaining. As usual no spoilers from me but suffice to say there are plenty of twists and turns as Daniel solves the mystery. I wouldn't dock any stars for the beginning as overall the book was an excellent read. The narrator is a new voice to me and I thought him quite good.
I was kindly given a copy of this book by the author and have left this honest and voluntary review.

Not really a legal thriller

I'm really bumped by leaving a slightly negative review, because the novel is really well written and the characters have depth and, but I didn't care about them. The story was sold to me as a legal thriller with a murder mystery to boot. Well, that's not what I was given. The novel is actually a family drama, it's character driven and it's slooooow with in-depth depictions of the characters thinking, so we get a lot of point of views about the same event.

I was given this review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Really interesting listen

This was my first by this author and narrator and I really did enjoy it. At the start I was wondering where it was going but then it got really good. Sometimes there was bit too much legalese for me but that made sense given what the book was about and the new series.

I also learnt a lot about Puerto Rican food as an aside.

I was given a free copy by the author but the review is entirely my own.

Litigation

After a slow start this was an interesting story, involving several families, secrets and litigation, with a fitting ending

Twists and Turns

I enjoyed the performance by the narrator, Paul David . This storyline had many twists and turns befitting a murder mystery. I don’t like reading about infidelity which is why I gave four stars.

love is quite twisted and can hurt

I became angry and frustrated with many of the characters in this story the more I listened to this. The adultery/cheating was done so cavalierly. I was even more incensed that Anthony could do this while his wife was lying in a hospital bed so ill!!! Dana was a soulless wanton. I could almost understand the sister's rage, but surely talking or a good old fashioned cat fight was in order after the surprise knowledge came to light. And, no repercussions for the other person in the triangle??? smh. What a complex hot mess!! I enjoyed the journey. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job bringing it to life.

a good who really dunnit.

Was it an accident? Was it love, lust, revenge? Nothing is better, nor more deadly than a group of close friends. Excellent look at an investigation into a crime, that does not even appear to be a crime. I really enjoyed listening to this story, plenty of good twists and turns.

Engaging legal thriller!

This book had my full attention from the very beginning. After the mother’s accident and lawsuit against the hotel, Attorney Daniel Mendoza and his associates must find out the truth and defend the hotel. The story had lots of twists and turns and I listened to the book in one sitting. I’m tired, but it was worth it. The writing was wonderful and I enjoyed the legal proceedings, the characters and their relationships were very realistic. The narrator was a little choppy or stilted, but I got used to the style and it didn’t impede my enjoyment. Well done, I look forward to the next book.

Future of the Daniel Mendoza Thrillers series

I finished writing the second thriller novel entitled, The Fleeing Felon. It should be available in audiobook format shortly.

This is the book blurb for The Fleeing Felon:

When Fredrick Prato becomes involved again with the local drug gang and fights with his girlfriend about the custody of their young child, he becomes increasingly upset and frantically flees on his motorcycle at night while inebriated. Unknown to Frederick, the freeway offramp is closed and blocked by a truck owned by TransAde to prevent oncoming traffic, resulting in a fatal crash.

Fredrick's parents and girlfriend are devastated by his unexpected death and sue TransAde for carelessly creating a dangerous condition with the truck. Daniel Mendoza and his team of attorneys must solve the mystery of why this tragic accident occurred.
Can Daniel find out what went wrong or was there something even more sinister?

I am also writing the third book in the series entitled, The Mendoza Memo.
