Summary

Depuis le ventre de sa mère, Maryam vit de front les premières heures de la révolution iranienne. Six ans plus tard, elle rejoint avec sa mère son père en exil à Paris. À travers les souvenirs de ses premières années, Maryam raconte l'abandon du pays, l'éloignement de sa famille, la perte de ses jouets donnés aux enfants de Téhéran sous l'injonction de ses parents communistes, l'effacement progressif du persan au profit du français, qu'elle va tour à tour rejeter, puis adopter frénétiquement, au point de laisser enterrée de longues années sa langue natale.

Dans ce récit qui peut être écouté comme une fable autant que comme un journal, Maryam Madjidi raconte avec humour et tendresse les racines comme fardeau, rempart, moyen de socialisation, et même arme de séduction massive. "Je ne suis pas un arbre, je n'ai pas de racines."

Great story and performance, let down by formattin

No issues with the story but the formatting is less than perfect. The chapters aren't named as they are in the book, merely numbered. That's unnecessary laziness. Additionally the chapter breaks are incorrectly aligned. It's only a few seconds but it's irritating and completely unnecessary.
