The Chuzzlewits are a family divided by money and selfishness; even young Martin, the eponymous hero, is arrogant and self-centred. He offends his grandfather by falling in love with the latter’s ward, Mary, and sets out to make his own fortune in life, travelling as far as America - which produces from Dickens a savage satire on a new world tainted with the vices of the old. Martin’s nature slowly changes through his bitter experience of life and his enduring love for Mary. Martin Chuzzlewit is one of Dickens’s most humorous and satirical novels, and it contains two great comic creations: the hypocrite Pecksniff and the drunken nurse Sarah Gamp.

Incredible narration, really brought the characters to life, especially the more picturesque characters like Mrs Gamp. HIghly recommend

Not one of Dickens' best known, but full of comic grotesques, this is a great story. The plot becomes quite convoluted in the final quarter of the book. Chuzzlewit of course has the usual flaws of a Dickens book - sentimentalizing and wordy in places. Yet there are some terrific characters, and uniquely funny dialogue. The reader conveys this brilliantly.

terrific reading of a classic

A Charles Dickens novel read by the quite brilliant Sean Barrett, what's not to like?

Worth an audible credit

Very well read and a good audio book. There are much better stories from the author though, in my opinion.

Good but not one of Dickens' best
