Summary
Moskau in den 1970er-Jahren: Marlov, selbsternannter Privatdetektiv, ist inzwischen notgedrungen zum Taxifahrer geworden, die Geschäfte laufen schlecht. Darum lässt er sich nach anfänglichem Zögern auf den Auftrag von Zofia Danilova ein. Sie bietet 10 000 Rubel für die Suche nach ihrer Tochter Vladilena. Die arbeitete zuletzt in einer Brigade der Komsomol-Jugendorganisation beim Eisenbahnbau, genauer bei der BAM, der Baikal-Amur-Eisenbahn. Bei diesem Prestigeobjekt, der größten Baustelle seit den Pyramiden, sollen 3.500 Kilometer Bahnstrecke quer durch Sibirien verlegt werden. Marlov ahnt, dass dort, wo viel gebaut, auch viel verschoben wird und gerät zwangsläufig in den gefährlichen sibirischen Sumpf von Gewalt und Korruption.
