Summary

In his latest novel, Markman's Cave, Ronald R. Van Stockum, Jr. draws us into the further adventures of the humans Marna, Elan, and Martin as they leave their home in the village of Tenlakes.

With the Great Horse, Long Hair, and furry companion, Flattail, they travel with the goal of satisfying the mystery that hundreds of generations have awaited: to unlock the door to Markman's Cave. The delights found in his previous books await the listener as Van Stockum's characters continue to converse with mind-pictures, become more complex in battle strategy, and develop in personal behavior to exhibit jealousy along with love, comradeship, and fidelity. With clues that inform who is speaking, the author moves away from conventional form, changing tense, voice, and point-of-view in a stream-of-consciousness akin to magic realism.

With this new novel, the action continues from Markman's Home, and further explains the events and characters in the author's previous work. Markman's Cave is another fascinating look into the world of what might-have-been, or what-could-be.
