Summary

Long distance running is much like any other fitness training. If you want to improve, you need a good plan that has a progressive nature. If you are new to this game, you need a solid foundation to build on. Having a running program is not the only thing that you need. Sound advice and running tips should be taken from someone who has "walked the walk", or in this case, "ran the run".

Hi, my name is James Atkinson from jimshealthandmuscle.com. I'm a qualified fitness coach and personal trainer and I have a fair bit of running advice that I would like to share with you. When I was around 18 years old, I was a terrible runner! In fact, I failed the basic fitness test for army entrance on running alone, and I failed big time! Several years later, I was clearing 1.5 mile running circuits in eight minutes and 22 seconds and could easily run a marathon any day of the week! I would like to share my knowledge and training experiences with you.

If you are a beginner when it comes to running, this information will no doubt give you advice that will probably not have even crossed your mind before. If you are already a runner and are looking to make more progression, you are also in the right place. I know that it is easy to get stuck on a training plateau, so I have also added some information and training methods to this book that will help you leave the plateau behind.

Very informative

Having already trained for and ran 3 marathons already I still picked up a few interesting tips from this book and therefore feel it was well worth a listen.

Great for those starting out

Enjoyed the stories and the tips. Being an injured ex soldier myself, I took up running to lose weight just over 4 years ago after ballooning to over 25st. Lost over 170lbs all thanks to the challenges that running can give you. Knowing how to avoid some of the pitfalls and getting good training tips stops those unnecessary injuries can only be a good thing. Soak up the knowledge this book gives you and you will succeed in your running dreams.

Great Book!

I am training to prepare for the police academy and have found it tough to find books or articles that I can relate to, but with his Military training stories I found it very relatable. I also love the tips to avoid injury, I wish I would've listened to this audible book sooner !

Bear Grylls meets Baden-Powell

I really enjoyed the straight forward tips and information described in this book.
The stories were entertaining and short and to the point.
The training plan is simple to follow and the suggestions are fantastic.
As I prepare for my second marathon, I am modifying my training with many of these suggestions.
The main take away is to plan your trainings to achieve the desired results.
Thank you Jim.

Tips from the British Special Forces!

Would you listen to Marathon Training & Distance Running Tips again? Why?

This book is a good introduction for any beginner runner. James’ stories are fascinating as he shares tips and tricks on long distance running many of which were learned during his time in the British Special Forces. This book is a quick and interesting listen and as an intermediate to advanced runner I came away with a few tricks I may try to help improve my speed this year. Definitely worth a listen and from an American prospective it is always fun to hear an English accent.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Marathon Training & Distance Running Tips?

Loved the stories of his time in the airborne unit.

What does Matt Addis bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Matt's oration is fantastic. His voice is easy and fun to listen to.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Learning to run the hard way....So we don't have to.

Any additional comments?

Worth the listen.

So basic it seemed like a joke

If you want to learn how to wear 2 pairs of socks, tape your toes, and load a backpack with sand this will be a good read for you.
The tips and tricks are silly and he goes from very, very basic to just basic while talking about covering 26 miles.
