As a single mom rebuilding my life from scratch, I don’t need help. And I definitely don’t need the attention of a six-foot-three maple farmer with a beard and a hero complex who looks at me like I’m a problem he didn’t sign up for.

My landlord is broad-shouldered, permanently unimpressed, and entirely too comfortable telling me when I’m wrong. I think he’s grumpy, rigid, and overprotective. He thinks I’m chaos in Crocs.

Falling for Josh Lawrence was never part of the plan.

But then he starts showing up.

For my son when he’s overwhelmed.

For my daughters when they need someone steady.

And for me when my hands won’t stop shaking.

I didn’t come to Vermont looking for a protector. I don’t need rescuing. But somewhere between harvest festivals, pumpkin canoe races, and quiet mornings in the sugar shack, the man I swore was just an annoyance becomes my safe place.

And when my dangerous past resurfaces and threatens the new life I’ve built, the grumpy maple farmer next door becomes my fiercest protector, ready to stand by my side while I fight for my family.

Because it turns out maple farmers are a lot like their trees: quiet, stubborn, and surprisingly sweet when the pressure builds.

Series Blurb: Welcome to Maplewood, Vermont. America’s Most Charming Small Town has some dark, sticky secrets. Come for the maple syrup, festivals, and cheese wars; stay for swoon.

I have only just finished this and I not only want the next book in the series but I want to go back to the beginning on this story and listen again.

The audio narration was amazing and well done, and the story had me by a chokehold.

The slow burn in the first half of this book is immense but the pay off is well worth it.

Daphne has a way of pulling you into the story and making you feel every emotion known to man in such a short space of time, I laughed, teared up and screamed so many times throughout.

I loved the cameos of Evie and Jasper from Sap and Secrets and being introduced to new characters within Maplewood.

The story does deal with the topic of domestic abuse (from the past) along with a few other topics that people may find triggering, so please check your triggers before reading.

Overall, an amazing listen/read and this will definitely be one I return to again.

Amazing audio

Love the book and couldnt wait to listen when I found out Sean Master was part of the audiobook cast! Unfortunatly, I just could not stand the voice of the FMC and ended up skipping all her chapters….

Great

I think Daphne Elliot has a knack of writing fmcs that I find hard to like.

As with the previous book, I found myself rolling my eyes and gritting my teeth with Selene's inner monologue. The portrayal of the female characters seems to be make life as difficult for yourself as you can.

However, with Selene, I found that I warmed to her more quickly than with Evie in the previous book. It seemed that Selene's attitude to Josh softened that much more quickly when she saw how much her children liked him.

Also that nickname that Josh had for Selene, Matchstick (swoon).

I'm not sure which couple the next book will be based on but this will be an enemies to lovers arc, so hopefully the fmc won't be so damaged by her past that she can't see a good man in front of her.

I loved Josh

I listened to the audio version narrated in duet format by Emma Wilder and Sean Masters. They did a really great job, and the duet format worked well with the extra children/family characters. I enjoyed listening to the book.

Maple & Moonlight can be read as a standalone story. I've listened to some of Daphne Elliot's Maine Lumberjack's series (including Celine's sister's book), but I hadn't yet read the first book in the Maplewood series. There were a lot of references to a murder that I suspect was in the first book, but it wasn't directly related to Josh and Celine's story. I liked that Celine was a strong single mom, and while she could be perceived as hot/cold at times, I think that made the story more realistic for a single parent being drawn to someone while also trying to keep life together.

I received a copy of this audiobook at my request, and the opinions here are my own.

Emotional, romantic, suspenseful! Loved it!

Single mom of 3, Celine, moves to the small town of Maplewood, Vermont for a fresh start after a difficult few years. There she meets broody maple farmer, Josh, who also happens to be her new landlord. At first, they seem to have some friction between them. But as time goes on, they both realise each other is what they really need!

Celine’s story really touched my soul. And Josh! Man Josh, the man that you are!!! Seeing him take in her kids and treat them soo well (painting the girls’ nails, making sure his boy has safe foods to eat…), it all had me choked up! 🥹 I just loved seeing them all together, but also seeing Josh and Celine finally find peace within each other. And their character arcs were portrayed brilliantly! I was fully invested in them both. Their relationship was such a nice slow burn, and worth every second.

As with the rest of the series, there’s the romantic elements, with a simmering and undercurrent of suspense and tension. It really had me hooked from the start, all the way to the end.

And of course the narration brought the whole story together for me. Emma Wilder and Sean Masters as Celine and Josh respectively was such a great choice! The characters truly came to life in this. It made all the moments feel and hit harder! I really felt all the emotions; from the more quiet moments, the comforting moments, all the tension, as well as the more vulnerable moments. Wonderfully executed!
