About this listen

FROM THE INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE DCI RYAN MYSTERIES

A new Doctor Alexander Gregory thriller performed by Richard Armitage

You can’t run from the past…

Back in London after a dramatic trip to North America, Doctor Alexander Gregory finds himself without an occupation while he awaits the all-important decision of the disciplinary panel at Southmoor Hospital. That is, until he witnesses the death of a famous actor, live on stage during the opening night of King Lear. When the police rule the death suspicious, they call upon the elite services of Gregory and his partner in criminal profiling, Bill Douglas.

Gregory is paired with attractive investigating officer DCI Hope and tensions arise—especially when an old foe resurfaces.

With bodies piling up and no new leads, Gregory and Hope realise they must look to the past to uncover the truth—before it’s too late. Immersed in the glamorous world of celebrity, Gregory soon learns that, beneath the surface, things are far murkier than they seem…

Murder and mystery are peppered with dark humour in this fast-paced thriller set amidst London’s vibrant Theatreland.

…definitely felt like half a book. Short on listening time & clearly there’s going to be a sequel (last book I listened to was over 20 hours long!).

A decent enough story but…

Another excellent story in this series . As usual great characterisation by the author. Enjoyed the narration .

Gripping

The change in the narrator in this & the previous book very much changed the character & essence of Dr Gregory & not for the better, It made him sound overly posh & somehow lost the depths of his personality. It set my teeth on edge a lot of the time.
However I love the storylines & enjoyed the series so far very much but the narrator of the first two books portrayed Dr Gregory so very much better.

I loved the last book, Bedlam, and so I bought this one. It was more of a slow burn for me, but it definitely picked up. I wasn't ready for the end though. Felt like a sudden stop, but it sets things up nicely for future books. Read beautifully by Armitage, as always. His voices really do make the story come to life. Recommended.

Another good book in the series

Another gripping visit into the human psyche. Alex negotiates the complexity of relationships, personal and professional and the challenge of discovering the truth from the evidence in front of him.
Are things really what they seem? Are people really who they think they are?
Can wrongs be righted? More please!

Excellent & Disturbing!
