About this listen

‘Terrifyingly BRILLIANT’ MARIAN KEYES, AUTHOR OF GROWN UPS

‘A book that needed to exist in the world. It is the book that was missing’ LISA TADDEO, AUTHOR OF THREE WOMEN

‘Magnificent’ KATE MOSSE, AUTHOR OF THE CITY OF TEARS

Sometimes Marisa gets the fanciful notion that Kate has visited the house before. She makes herself at home without any self-consciousness. She puts her toothbrush right there in the master bathroom, on the shelf next to theirs.

In Jake, Marisa has found everything she’s ever wanted. Then their new lodger Kate arrives.

Something about Kate isn’t right. Is it the way she looks at Marisa’s boyfriend? Sits too close on the sofa? Constantly asks about the baby they are trying for? Or is it all just in Marisa’s head?

After all, that’s what her Jake keeps telling her. And she trusts him – doesn’t she?

But Marisa knows something is wrong. That the woman sleeping in their house will stop at nothing to get what she wants.

Marisa just doesn’t know why.

How far will she go to find the answer – and how much is she willing to lose?

‘A pacy, stylish thriller in which suspense is accompanied by fist-pumping feminism and, perhaps toughest of all, hope.’

Having listened to a LOT of Elizabeth Day's podcast work (I am a true fan girl!) I felt I could really feel her voice in this, her first piece of fiction I've read. I found it addictive and I'm about to start her next, I found her writing that great. I particularly enjoy her wide vocabulary :) It also made me realise just how very lucky I am to have fallen pregnant naturally twice - something I thought I was very grateful for, but this book made me even more grateful and I will be even more supportive to any friends with fertility issues as a result 💜

An addictive, emotional tale of fertility troubles

Clever plot and believable characters. The performance is good, bringing the two main characters vividly to life.

I listened to the "sneak peek" on Elizabeth Day's podcast and was immediately hooked, so I opened my Audible account just to continue listening. The story is gripping and characters well built. I only have mixed feelings about the ending (but no spoilers here!). The narration by T. Reynolds is fantastic, her voice perfectly conveys the story and makes de audiobook experience enjoyable. Overall recommended!!

Gripping story!

Easy reading. Started good and a great concept but I had to really work to finish. Didn’t find any characters that likeable. Plenty of twists to keep you reading but I kept waiting for something really good.

Meh.
