About this listen

A storm.

An accident.

For Miss Trent and her students, what should have been a well-deserved celebration has suddenly turned into a desperate fight for survival.

There's something lurking in the forest. Hunting them. Feeding off their fear. Nothing is what it seems. Until tonight, insanity was just a word.

Now they're going to learn its true meaning.

Tick—one by one they're being taken. Tock—to suffer a fate worse than anything they could imagine. Tick—screaming, pleading, praying—nothing will work. Tock—not everyone will make it. Tick—but one thing's for sure. Tock—when you enter the madhouse, you'll never be the same again.

Contains mature themes.

Whilst I enjoyed this audiobook overall, I found myself craving more detail that was never fully explored. The storyline felt slightly underdeveloped, with little backstory explaining how the family came to be or why they all seemed to share a collective “psychosis.” I also wanted to know more about how they ended up outside of Pitlochry in Scotland, details that could have added real depth to the narrative.

Unfortunately, the narration made it a challenging listen. At times, I genuinely thought it might have been AI-generated, and I’m still not entirely convinced it wasn’t. Some mispronunciations, like “forehead,” were particularly distracting.

Overall, it wasn’t a bad listen, but it didn’t quite deliver the impact I was hoping for.

Absolutely terrifying, I read the book and was hooked from start to finish so had to listen on audio, Kim truly brings the sickening characters to life. If your a fan of horror then this is for you, it has it all. just don’t go anywhere on your own in the dark!!!

Couldn’t dream it up in my worst nightmare!

Well, I always thought Christopher Artinian was a bit bonkers, but this story just proves it! Cannot say the same about the sheer brilliance of the narration by Kim Bretton. Brings the whole story to life, especially after having read the book.

Bonkers!
