Summary

Don't talk to strangers....

Faced with his parents' divorce, 11-year-old Lucas runs away from home in the hope that his family will get back together to find him. While walking through the empty streets, he is picked up by a mysterious woman who offers to take care of him and provide him with a loving family.

The boy then wakes up in shackles, confined to a bed in a decrepit house in the middle of nowhere and will have to face his deepest fears in order to survive in his new home.

Join Lucas in a desperate attempt to get back to his family in Madhouse, the first published audiobook from horror-thriller author Miguel Estrada.

Don't Run Away From Home

I have never wanted to run away from home. I have known people who have and while they seemed to have fun for a few days eventually they had to go back home and face the consequences. Have to say this reaffirms my decision to never do that.
The story is quick, but pedal down the whole way. Would say this follows the typical abduction story and since it is packed into a two hour story it engages you quick and keeps you on the edge of your seat all the way. As should be expected with such a short story there isn’t much for character development, but you do develop a relationship with Lucas quickly. There is a huge twist at the end that changes how you feel about everything you listened to.
Zak does a great job. Good character voices and made for a pleasant listen to a not so pleasant story.

No, Seriously, Don't Talk to Strangers!

Nothing like a good child abduction story to get the blood pumping! A quick listen, 'Madhouse' is an enthralling and cautionary tale that any horror fan would be silly to miss. Miguel Estrada surprised and delighted me; I'm thoroughly impressed by his ingenuity here. Zak Price absolutely nails the performance on this one, too. From top to bottom, this is just a really good one. I wouldn't miss it if I were you!

Delightfully twisted!

Miguel Estrada's Madhouse is a delightfully twisted short story that will keep you engaged from start to finish and can easily be listened to in a single sitting. Thoroughly enjoyable, I will definitely be looking out for more of his work in the future. Likewise, Zak Price's narration was excellent. His voice is perfectly suited for the tone of the piece, and I hope he narrates more horror stories in the future.

I received a copy of this audio title in exchange for an unbiased review.

I was on the edge of my seat

Zak Price is an amazing narrator. His voice and the way he read this book had me so in to it I just set in my chair. This was my first book by Miguel Estrada but it will not be my last.

I was given my copy of this book at my request and chose to leave this review.

Great Story!

I love the way the story flowed. I will definitely purchase from this author again. However, the narrator sounded very robotic so it took my a long while to get into the story. I started to ask for a refund but I loved the story more than I disliked the narration.

Fair, needs improvement

I liked this short piece but the storyline needs some work. Characters drifted in and out without clear understanding of what was happening. For example, it's important to note where the maniacs are in the house when you're being hunted down. Long lapses between the appearance of the possible murderers dont make sense when the main character is roaming freely throughout different rooms of a house. Other key elements trail off as well. The story is written for a very low comprehension level such as early high school or jr high. The main character, an 11-year-old boy, has an emotional empathy level of a 40 year old which didnt work. For example, while evading a vicious attacker he stops to consider the comfort level of an old woman and converse with her as if they were not in a life-threatening situation. I do like how the story neatly resolved. The author had some good ideas and would like to see more development in future stories.

Great, but too short

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This was a short but intense horror story. It is well narrated and kept me riveted the whole time. I just wish it was a full length novel. I loved the plot twist ending, though. I really didn't see it coming. Definitely recommend!

Twisted enough for me!

Lucas runs away from his home to teach his parents a lesson. He soon meets a nice but strange lady who takes him home with her and soon he's steeped in her home of horrors. The sick and depraved situations this author thought to write into this story are very creative. i admire the talent and the twist at the end.

This is something of a cautionary tale but not for children to read. The story is a quick listen and flows well with a large helping of suspense at every turn. I cringed several times and had a hard time pulling myself away until the book ended. The narrator does a great job with pacing and tone. The characters are vibrant, although, not the kind you want to meet.

This is an swesome horror thriller for the reader who craves twists!
