About this listen

Luciano

Everyone thought my wife was dead, but I never stopped searching for her. When I finally found her, the timid young woman I forced to marry me was all gone. In her place was a fiercely independent woman who hated my guts.

I might have deserved it.

But did it stop me from dragging her, her secret child and her best friend back to New York City with me?

Absolutely not.

My wife belonged with me and it was time I proved it to her.

Grace

Life on the run had some benefits. Your mobster husband could no longer use you. Nor could your rotten family who wanted you dead.

Instead, I was living my best life ever in a tiny Sicilian village with my son and best friend.

Until we were found. My husband dragged us all back, but this time I was determined to fight him. I wouldn’t fall for his charms and hot kisses again because I had so much more to lose this time around.

If only my heart would get on board with my plans.

The worst part of this was for as much as Luciano was a big bad mafia man, he couldn't do simply math. I just liked this fine it wasn't the best but far from the worse.

🎧AUDIOBOOK REVIEW🎧
Ok, I finished this book and had to take a moment to marinate it in my head a while before writing my review. To tell you it's living rent free in my head now is an understatement.
At first, I had a slight issue with how the story started all in the middle of everything. Like, I would have preferred seeing their relationship from the beginning, but ultimatly it worked out. It gave us the story later in a better way.
I loved little Mateo. He's so cute.
And Luciano's 'my wife' will get you each time. 🥵
Overall, I loved this and want more of it!

Plot was different from other typical mafia romance skipped the forced marriage intro straight to betrayal but I feel overall could've been better more drama she just forgave him like eh whatever and was waiting for that father son moment when mmc realized the child is his ..through whole book he was potrayed as stupid kind of felt like other characters had more aura to them

I felt like I was pushed out of a helicopter into the ocean when starting this book. Instead of showing the events that led up to Grace being “forced” to marry Luciano, we are dropped straight into the breakdown of their relationship and what Luciano sees as her betrayal, which sends a pregnant Grace and her best friend Ella on the run. Being an avid listener of mafia romance and familiar with the typical series structure, I actually checked the author’s website to see if this was a spin-off from a previous book. Surprisingly, it’s not. This is the starting point in the recommended reading order. That unique storytelling choice worked for me because I was immediately hooked, desperate to figure out what was going on. I’m a sucker for a second-chance romance, and even more so when a secret baby is involved. The storyline definitely held my attention and introduced so many intriguing characters that I can’t wait to hear more about in future books. There were a few minor frustrations, though. Mainly Luciano being so obtuse that he doesn’t realize Grace’s son is his. Everyone around him notices the resemblance, plus the boy is named after Luciano’s father, and yet it still never clicks. It’s a bit of a stretch, but I can forgive it. Anger and revenge can cloud anyone’s judgment. At the heart of the story is human trafficking, so survivors of SA may want to skip this one if you’re sensitive to triggers. While there aren’t graphic depictions, there are close calls and mentions of past trauma. These are mafia men after all, so expect plenty of morally grey behavior.

On the narration side: perfection. I could listen to Aaron Shedlock read the dictionary and still be enthralled, and Makenzie Cartwright is an excellent fit for a fiery, resilient heroine like Grace. Overall, I definitely recommend diving into this book if you’re in the mood for a gripping mafia romance with plenty of drama, danger, and heart.

Excellent Mafia Romance
