About this listen

From USA Today bestselling author Dakota Davies comes a small town suspense romance about a star quarterback and the shy musician he’s never stopped loving.

When I fell in love with my best friend’s little sister, we were just kids. Not that it mattered. Charlotte was my forever. I knew it then and I know it now. But everything fell apart that summer before college. I tried to fight for us, but it was impossible, not with our goals pulling us apart, and her silence. Now she’s back in our small town to care for her sister, and I’m not about to squander an opportunity to win her back.

But even though she’s moved into my guest room, she keeps avoiding me. It’s maddening. I moved back to Finn River to put down roots. I became a firefighter and in my spare time, I run the music club Charlotte and her sister first played at. I’m not the reckless kid I once was, prioritizing my dreams over hers. I’m here, ready to build a life together, if only she’d stop being so damn stubborn and let me try.

But a shocking discovery that finally gives me the real reason she pushed me away eight years ago changes everything. Can I right the wrongs of the past without sacrificing our only shot at a second chance?

Author’s note: Love Me Steadfast is the sixth installment in the Love Me Dangerous series but can be listened to as a stand-alone. Please check content warnings for this book as it contains sensitive subjects that may be upsetting to some listeners. Will and Charlie’s dual timeline romance is emotional and though devastating at times, their happily ever after is deeply healing and uplifting.

Dakota Davies pens another winning novel, a fantastic addition to her amazing “Love Me Dangerous” series, an engrossing small town suspense romance that tugs at your heartstrings the entire time. Davies’ Finn River has become one of my favorite places to visit and spend time in, a place with characters and storylines that are relatable and intriguing. This sixth book is a second chance romance between Charlotte and Will’s story, Will is her older brother’s best friend, and star quarterback on the school team. She was shy and on the nerdy side, and he was the good-looking jock, but they worked, and they grew close and their relationship turned into something more, though they kept it on the down-low so her brother did not find out. Her dad owned a music venue where up-and-coming artists played, and Charlotte and her sister’s band got to be an opener for one of those artists. Her sister was more comfortable on stage, but Charlotte managed with the help of some encouraging words from Will. Things went downhill for Will and Charlotte, and he never knew why she ghosted him. He went to play professional football, and she left to pursue a more classical approach in music. Years have passed, and Will is back in Finn River, working as a first responder, a medic, and after finding Charlotte’s sister unconscious, he called her to tell her to come home. This time he will not be letting her go without putting up a fight. With flashbacks into the past, we watch Charlotte and Will’s relationship blossom in their younger days, as well as what occurred before their fallout. Davies created a multilayered story, weaving a complex web, bringing the past to the present, and bringing the suspense storyline full circle. This wonderfully written and cleverly plotted story has the perfect balance of drama, angst, thrilling and suspenseful moments, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance.  Dakota Davies, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, Gregory Salinas and Jill Smith continue to do an amazing job voicing these characters and delivering a perfect portrayal of each. I loved how they took each role and made it their own, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters to sound. Smith was a natural in Charlotte’s role, grasping every aspect of her personality, from her insecurities to her fierceness, and all in between. Salinas did the same in Will’s role and was just as fabulous at showcasing his personality and demeanor. Both were fantastic at performing the roles of the side/secondary characters, too. They set the ideal tone for the story, conveyed all the characters’ emotions in their performance, making you feel each one. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to, and their performance rivets you to the story.

This one is heavy guys. The dual timeline provides such an air of anticipation through the whole book. The storyline was emotional on so many levels. Will and Charlotte have such a deep bond that I was genuinely scared to find out why they weren’t together for so long. I was so thankful we got such a satisfying conclusion. I really enjoy this world. It’s so nice to get glimpses of past couples along with hints at what could come in the future.

Once again, these narrators did an amazing job at wringing every emotion out of these characters. They handled the dual style narration so well I genuinely forgot it wasn’t in duet. I was locked in and finished this one in a day.

High emotion!
