About this listen

Read by the author.

Can you be happy without a partnership at the centre of your life?

Society still sets the gold standard for successful living as a marriage and kids. As Marianne Power turns forty, she wonders why this is still so elusive for her and whether, in fact, this is what she even wants, or just what she feels like she should want. At first, she tries to lean into the alternatives – self-love, self-marriage, sisterhood – but is she avoiding confronting her fears about commitment, relationships and sex?

Determined to find out for sure, Marianne sets off on a journey to answer the question: can you have a life full of love without marriage and kids? From tantra to Skype sex, from polyamory to sologamy, Marianne’s quest takes her to some hilarious, scary and moving places – and she discovers that maybe, in these chaotic times, loving thy neighbour is more important than romantic ideals.

Honest, intimate and inspiring, Love Me! is about the freedom to envision the life you want, and finding the courage to choose it.

Critic reviews

Funny, wise, revelatory - a gift of a book. A revolution wrapped in a love story (Natasha Lunn, author of Conversations on Love)
Tender, hopeful, funny, sexy and inspiring. It's a book I'm going to be sharing with every woman I know, I really loved it (Daisy Buchanan, author of Insatiable)
A rollicking read . . . Power is warm, relatable, unflinchingly honest, a bit chaotic and often laugh-out-loud funny
Intimate and inspiring . . . comedic and candid
Whatever happened to Bridget Jones? In this post #MeToo update she conquers shame, becomes a tantric woman and gets good at sex. A gold-star beach read (Monique Roffey, author of The Mermaid of Black Conch)
A heroic journey exploring how to be a woman in the modern world. An important book (Stephanie Theobald, author of Sex Drive)
Warning. This hilarious and honest book could seriously improve your sex life - and indeed your whole life (Lucy-Anne Holmes, author of Don’t Hold Down My Head)
Brilliantly written, this book is full of so much wisdom, brutal honesty, and laugh-out-loud humour. Marianne beautifully portrays the possibilities of a life less ordinary (Lucy Meggeson, author of Spinsterhood)

What a fantastic book, I can’t say how much a lot of Martiane’s stories have resonated with my life experiences to date, funny, insightful and hopefully bringing tantra and Jan’s work into wider understanding is to be applauded. Thoroughly enjoyed every chapter.

Fabulous insight into all aspects of marianne’s search for love

I really love Marianne Power’s honest vulnerable writing. So interesting thinking about the pressures on women (primarily) to settle down and have kids and the options available if you either don’t want or don’t get that societally acceptable “happy ever after”. Really empowering and helpful read.

Brilliant book

I love this book. It’s easy to relate to as a divorcee twice and now living alone. It’s nice to know that the fact I enjoy my own company is not abnormal.

Humanity and honesty
