About this listen

Memory man FBI agent, Amos Decker, returns in this action-packed thriller to investigate the mysterious and brutal murder of a federal judge and her bodyguard at her home in an exclusive, gated community in Florida from international bestselling author David Baldacci.

Things are changing for Decker. He’s in crisis following the suicide of a close friend and receipt of a letter concerning a personal issue which could change his life forever. Together with the prospect of working with a new partner, Frederica White, Amos knows that this case will take all of his special skills to solve.

As darkness falls, evil comes to light . . .

Judge Julia Cummins seemingly had no enemies, and there was no forced entry to her property. Close friends and neighbours in the community apparently heard nothing, and Cummins’ distraught ex-husband, Barry, and teenage son, Tyler, both have strong alibis. Decker must first find the answer to why the judge felt the need for a bodyguard, and the meaning behind the strange calling card left by the killer.

Someone has decided it’s payback time.

Critic reviews

Sinewy, and written with Baldacci’s consummate skill, this is a thriller from the top drawer (Daily Mail on Walk the Wire)
David Baldacci is one of the all-time best thriller authors (Lisa Gardner, author of One Step Too Far and Before She Disappeared)

A riveting brain-teaser as well as serving up vivid action scenes

Agent White spends to much time bemoaning that she is hard done by because she is black and a woman. This gets in the way of the story but today it seems we have to be reminded how black people are picked on because of their colour. It is a shame because, the story had legs.

Good but flawed

Difficult to switch off. Baldacci is a wonderful story teller. Readers were excellent and brought the story alive

Another great Decker book

This was another winner from the Baldacci large stock of audio books. Never sure where its going which is great and when all the pieces of the puzzle align it comes to a satisfactory end.👍

Great listen

I understand that the main characters had a difficult past but got tired of them both wallowing in self pity. I did listen to the end because I wanted to see how the case was solved but found the female voice over acted to an annoying degree. Good plot but didn’t need the continued references to the detectives past.

Irritating at times

I love Amos Decker but was a little distracted with the story line, constantly returning to his mind and his wife and daughter. it lost me for a while but I'm glad I got back to it.

Not disappointed but
