In June 2005 four US Navy SEALs left their base in Afghanistan for the Pakistani border. Their mission was to capture or kill a notorious al-Qaeda leader known to be ensconced in a Taliban stronghold surrounded by a small but heavily armed force. Less than twenty-four hours later, only one of those Navy SEALs was alive.

This is the story of team leader Marcus Luttrell, the sole survivor of Operation Redwing. Loved the story and the absolute fight Marcus and his brothers fought. Without doubt the spirit they showed was inspiring and more than a few times made me choke up. Unfortunately found the manner in which the story read a little manicured most importantly having realized he was shown the grace of God a number of times the amount of blasphemy is shocking!

A memorable book. For the Brits listening it's very 'yank' which is fine by me. They're an elite fighting force with a very healthy dose of patriotism which the UK (in the round) needs more of - 100% recommended.

The story of true life events is enthralling and the bravery of those involved including Afghan people who protected him is commendable. He airs his political views frequently and it spoilt it for me. He needs to own the decision he made on the battlefield that was disastrous rather than seemingly blaming left wing activists back in the US. Also a blinkered view of the world and that everything the US does is right. It isnt and it takes the edge of what is a very good read.

Not only was this one of the most idiotic missions, it really needs keeping quiet, instead we get a gung ho narrator who adds insults to injury. Hard to stomach in every way....shame
