Summary

Darkness is the only thing I see. Ever since the day my life changed. The day that everything and everyone I held close to me ceased to exist. The day I lost it all, and the demons of my past consumed my every waking moment.

I tried to keep others at arm's length. Tried not to let my darkness taint them. Ruin them. Harm them. And whether I want to admit it or not, as much as I wish I could keep them locked out, they refuse to leave. Refuse to let me suffer alone.

If I hadn't been so focused on keeping those demons from flying free, I wouldn't have missed how one perfect angel was able to sneak her way under my skin - refusing to let go. Making me want things I don't deserve. She consumes me. Her beauty knows no end. The love she promises tempts me every time she's near. But that pure heart that makes her my Emmy is the one thing I'm convinced I'll destroy if I ever let her close.

Contains mature themes.

PSTD

Sometimes life just isn't fair. Growing up as a child both Emmy and Locke have never had a positive role model and were constantly fought the neglect in their families. Now both adults Emmy and Locke are drawn to one another, neither feeling worthy of love, especially Locke. Locke tries to keep others at arm's length so he feels he can't ruin them.

Emmy is attracted to Locke's survival throughout life, and she makes him want things he doesn't think he deserves. When her family attempts to destroy her again, Locke steps up to protect her and she wants to reciprocate the same thing with his family.

Best one

I truly think this is the best one in the series because he was the most broken and had a lot of demons/self hate to deal with head on and when he did it was simply beautiful.

Em and Maddox Locke

Both Em and Maddox have been destroyed by their families. Both are so wounded they seem to fit together. Everything is dangerous as Em's family want her to return at any cost. Maddox family took everything away from him. After Em is beaten by the man her parents gave her to, Maddox goes nuts. He will do anything to help her get away from them. Maddox also finds out he can take legal vengeance on his family. If he can destroy both families, he and Em can have each other.

Amazing

I absolutely LOVED this series. You connect to every single character in this group and your heart feels the pains and happiness that they do. I can’t wait to get into the next series to see what else Harper Sloan creates.

Unimaginative, I've Read This Book before x4

😒Finally, the end of the series. If you read my earlier reviews, you can see that I really enjoyed the 1st installment but they go downhill from there.

I do not like leaving less than stellar reviews, but I would have appreciated another point of view when I was reading through the reviews.

Locke is the 5th and final book in the Corps Security series. By the time I was listening to #4 (Cooper) I noticed a pattern with Harper Sloan's writing. EVERYTHING is the same. For example, each of the male characters had the same dialect, "Don't go anywhere without me. I got you, yeah?" Was repeated in each book, "You're with me, yeah?" And so on, LITERALLY. The intimate scenes were so similar that if you put a book in front of me with the paragraph and left the names out, I would not be able to tell you which book it was from.

These are definitely cookie-cutter books with an ounce or 2 that differs to make them "unique".
1. Damaged guy is going to protect equally damaged girl, whether she wants them to or not
2. Damaged girl is affected by an outside source (Crazy ex-girlfriend, overbearing family member, etc.)
3. Misinformation and/or miscommunication leads to several chapters of sulking/whining
4. Damaged man takes matters into his own hands and fixes everything, sometimes with damaged girls help.

Sprinkle and heavy doses of intimacy and you have the Core Security book.

The characters are pretty much interchangeable, depending on where they fall, in the storyline. My recommendation is to listen to one of the books (they are standalone works, even though they belong to a series) and continue from there, If you like them. I made the mistake of purchasing the whole series at once and listen to them back to back (2 – 5) I listened to and reviewed book number 1 Axel, 2 years before listening to the rest of the series.

These books contain strong language and mature themes meant for 18-year-olds and older.
