About this listen

The finest book on Britain's most popular rock 'n' roll band 'Read on … It's all true' Noel Gallagher

Featuring an exclusive interview with Noel Gallagher and bespoke artwork by celebrated Oasis album designer Brian Cannon

Think Oasis was just Britpop and brawls?

Think again.

John Robb was there every step of the way. In this, the definitive book on Britain’s biggest band, he peels back the layers of Manchester’s best-known musical export, revealing a tale of ambition, ego, talent and a whole lot of attitude. From the estates of South Manchester to the dizzying heights of global stardom, Live Forever is a rollercoaster ride through the Gallagher brothers’ turbulent lives and the music that defined a generation. But it is also a portrait of Britain around the turn of the millennium and the cultural forces and places that shaped, and were shaped by, two cocksure upstarts from Burnage – from art to fashion, and from football to politics.

Playful, funny and irreverent, and drawing on dozens of interviews and first-hand stories, this book puts Oasis squarely in the pantheon of music royalty as the last great rock ’n’ roll stars.

First and foremost, this book takes you right back to the time of our lives, mid 80’s onwards. Robbs ability to set the scene and place you right there is superb. It’s like you’re in the studio, the club, the rehearsal rooms. From there the definitive story of the band unfolds and you don’t miss a thing. Entertaining, informative and eye opening in equal measures. Superb.

A definitive story of a generational band

Biblical John Rob writes the definitive account of the rise and fall of the ultimate working class rock band

John Robb has managed to craft an incredibly astute origin and development story of Oasis, rooted in all the right places and bringing the characters, wit and warmth of Manchester’s Irish community into the page. It’s narrated by someone who is able to switch accents seamlessly so you get more of a texture of the universality of the story than I got from just reading the book. Absolutely brilliant- Noel, Liam and Bonehead’s insights and quotes from different stages give it real depth and poignancy. This book is the best in Oasis if you want a coherent, real deal instead of fan fiction.

Impeccably detailed, propulsive narrative

John Robb has a great gift for putting things in context and his passion for music in general is inspiring.

It’s a great blend of a talented journalist writing about excellent subject matter.

I’m an Oasis superfan and there were stories in here I hadn’t heard before.

I listened on Audible. Daniel Millar reads it superbly and brings the various characters to life with a range of accents.

Hilarious stories and great insight
