About this listen

"Take my hand, little one."

Fran finds her standing by the swings. A little girl, Esther, no older than seven years old, by herself in the dead of night, her pretty but old-fashioned yellow dress covered in grass stains and her hair dishevelled. She says she's waiting for Father, and that strikes Fran as particularly odd.

After Esther is reunited with her family, Fran can't stop thinking about this pious child whose imaginary friend is God. Fran's instincts tell her something is very wrong. Why does Esther keep running away from home, and how did she get that bruise on her leg?

Fran's husband warns her not to get too close, but one morning, Esther and her family disappear. Where did they go? Why did they leave their furniture behind?

Fran knows in her gut that something terrible is going to happen to that child, and she can't stand by while it happens. No matter the cost.

After all, she found her. But can she save her?

Probably the best book I’ve read/listened to in years. A fantastic piece of quick paced writing that you won’t want to put down. The story had me hooked from the get go and although at times I thought I knew what was going to happen the twists and turns proved me wrong. The narrators voice was lovely to listen to and overall the performance was brilliant. 100% recommend.

Absolutely phenomenal

Hooked from beginning to end.
The twist and turns along the way were fabulous. One of my new favourites.

Couldn't stop listening!

Beautifully clear narration. Characters brought to life by the skill of the narrator's acting. Very enjoyable, though the tale is a little on the dark side.

Enjoyable light listening with a semi dark plot...

I listen to audiobooks when I go for my walks and runs. During lockdown I’m pretty much done with both of those activities but for the duration of this book I’ve found myself out more than in and hitting my step target every day!

This is a great story from the off and was told in such a way one could easily believe it was the gospel truth. The narrator deserves bucket loads of praise for her performance and her amazing ability to switch seamlessly between characters. A story so well written and read like you were listening to a play, made hearing each part worth the pain of racking up more unwanted pedometer points.

If you like a good twist you won’t be disappointed.

Excellent story, compelling dialogue

It didn't start quite like I had expected and I wasn't sure if it would be my cup of tea but actually it was very good. Well written. Some good twists and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I wasn't sure at first but very good in the end
