About this listen
Actress, singer, author Angela Bowie draws upon her years of working with ex-husband David Bowie in the exciting Glam Rock '70s when boys were wearing mascara, and society was changing, to tell the story of Lipstick Legends. She also interviewed Mae West, Jayne County, Alice Cooper, producer Kim Fowley, Warhol legend Cherry Vanilla, Glenn Hughes of deep purple, Chris Robison of The New York Dolls, musician Chick Cashman, and David Bowie's mime teacher and mentor Lindsay Kemp.
©2012 Mary A Jones (P)2019 Mary A JonesThe book has a stonking soundtrack which acts as chapter headers. Angie is engaging, entertaining and as honest as you'd imagine.
The editing on this book is much more free-form than other Audible tracks but this is not a criticism - it's a bonus. It's a glimpse behind the scenes which is really what this story is about.
There are great tales about all the world players from the 50s through to today. Obviously David Bowie is featured and its fascinating to hear Angie put context around his rise to fame in regards to the world at that time.
If you have an interest in the history of culture or the advancement in equal rights and acceptance for strands of humanity then this is a fantastic resource from someone who was part of the movements.
Bravo.
A fascinating story & memoir.
