About this listen

Richie Cathar’s father, Alaric, was a renaissance man: an intellectual, explorer, archaeologist, and historian. He was also a fantasist, absentee parent, and drug abuser.

Alaric named his son after Richard, Coeur de Lion, but left him only conflicting memories when he died. Now Richie is in search of his own role.... Following his father’s trail to the Holy Land to research the Art of the Medieval Latin Kingdom, Richie’s quest is to uncover the fate of Christianity’s most sacred relic and the truth about his father.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Making the history and its links with the current time plots easier to understand.

What was most disappointing about Justin Cartwright’s story?

I was bored by the history and the plots didn't grip me.

What does Robin Bowerman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I'm not sure, though he read it well.

What character would you cut from Lion Heart?

Maybe Emily, not totally sure.

Any additional comments?

I found this one long ramble and the only bits that gripped me was the subplot that had 2 lovers who didn't know each other being related to each other in blood which in the end cost one her life. I didn't want to know all the sexual details either. In short, this book wasn't enjoyable for me.

A difficult plot and a boring book.
