narrator style takes some getting used to!

enjoyed the story but struggled with the narrative style. very strong English schoolboy accent, very breathy almost attenborough like, some absolutely dire character accents, which were quite cringeworthy almost stopped listening but pushed through to the end.

did it again!!

Great sequel to the first. Amazing plot and character development. The story really draws you in. I want more!!!!!

Edit: Just finished my second read through, this book is seriously a gem. It doesnt follow the typical Litrpg/gamelit route and has unique mechanics. The story seems more realistic than other books as the MC doesn't become some overpowered person from day 1. There are tonnes more pros about this book but I'd just say have a read and then thank me later:)

Improves on the first novel

Where the first book in this series starts slowly, book 2 jumps into the action.

As the main character levels up and grows in power his interactions with the virtual world become more compelling.

The novel builds towards a huge battle with Hayden’s Knoll at risk.

Great sequel

Please listen to book 1 first, it introduces the characters and sets the setting up.

Another great entry in the litRPG genre, which sidesteps some of the usual pitfalls of overpowered characters or too strong focus on just the "game".

Narration by Jack is getting better and better, some people might find the accents over the top, but I prefer that there is proper differentiation between characters, so you don't always have to remember who's talking.

Super fun listen

Great listen for when you just want to have some fun. On book 3 now and loving every minute! There are obvious improvements from the first book in terms of production quality. Characters sound different and unique, and it is very easy to fall in love with them. Really enjoying the experience so far.

Series progresses nicely with this 2nd installment

While you could use this book as the starting point for the series, I would recommend starting with the first one, while the pacing is a little slower, it works well as you need to be introduced to the characters, classes, the real and game worlds and the mechanics of the game.

This second instalment of the series picks up where the first one ends and then proceeds to ramp things up quite drastically for the main character and his friends with the world opening up and the level of threat increasing accordingly. Along the way there are some interesting revelations concerning both the game and real world that should have a significant impact in later books too.

In general the narrator did another good job of enhancing the story, voices were suitably distinctive to nicely enhance the characters, but some of the accents didn't quite work as well for me this time.

Overall, a strong second book in the series with the main problem being that there isn't yet a third for me to move onto.
