Summary

Lily, a heartbroken editor from London, has just learned the hard way that love is unpredictable. After finding her fiancee entangled with another woman, she travels to Bali to recover from her failed relationship.

River is a womanizing artist with a troubled past and serious commitment issues. She traded a successful career in L.A. for a quiet, anonymous life in Bali where she works as a tour guide on weekends.

After the two meet on an excursion led by River, Lily is shocked to find herself curiously drawn to her new friend. Lily has never been involved with a woman before but she can't seem to get the charming and persuasive blonde out of her head.

Is this newly awakened fire just a moment in time? Or has destiny led them exactly where they needed to be?

Entertaining, Funny with Tense Moments

First of all I should explain that I was given a promo code for this Audible title and the author was previously unknown to me, as was the narrator.

On the whole I found this an entertaining story. It’s the first time I’ve listened to a story before reading it and I found that slightly odd, having no preconceived ideas or images in my head. Once I’d become used to that I settled in and enjoyed the storyline, the humour and the angst, the "will they, won't they" uncertainty (even though I hoped for a happy ending).
There were occasional slow areas when I just wanted the narrator to hurry up and get the story flowing and unfolding again but they weren’t enough to make me fast forward through the narration.
I found some of the narration a little bit too earnest and Lily's mother especially jarred every now and then. This, of course, may have been difficult for me only because I’m not used to such over-exuberance. I certainly wouldn’t reject the story just because it took me a little bit out of my comfort zone. It may be an English reticence on my part!
There were just a few minor irritations in pronunciation and one (repeated) that infuriated me. I haven’t been able to discover if C.C.Sinclair is British. If she IS, then I am appalled. If she isn’t there's still no excuse - someone should have picked up on the cringe-inducing pronunciation of High Wycombe. No, it’s NOT W+EYE+KUHM. It's WIK+UHM. Always has been. In all my 67 years, some lived not all that far away from the town, I have NEVER, EVER heard it pronounced any way other than WIKUHM.
If that isn’t enough to put you off, then I’d highly recommend this story for its humour, its well-drawn and colourful characters and interesting story line.

A really enjoyable audiobook

I've read this book a little while ago and I found a very enjoyable, light romance.
I hesitated about the narrator at first and it took a while to get used to her voice, but I warmed to her and she did a really good job with the different characters' accents voices.
This is the author's debut and I'm looking forward to her next book and the narrator's other work.

So refreshing

I loved the story line and the fact there were no games played. Mostly!
Refreshing to see a love story that doesn’t have to deal with prejudice or shame.
Very “ feel good” kind of story!
Thank you Lise Gold!

Wonderful book!

...and the narration was perfect. I think this officially cements Lise Gold as one of my favorite authors. Everything I've read by her so far has been beautiful and heartfelt, and this story is no exception.

Narrator could be better

I found it difficult, mostly in the beginning, to stay on track with the story line, because the Narrators tone and pitch was too often out of context with what was happening in the story. Otherwise, the story was better than expected.

Lily Bug

Honestly it took me a long time to download this book. Hearing the English Accent turned me off. Next came the Indian Accent, but the American Accent blended it all together. Yes I would recommend this book to any of my friends who love to read. Thanks Lise Gold great story. Off to my next adventure.

I want to go to Bali

Lise Gold did it once again with love in a foreign land. Part of what made this such an enjoyable read was the locale and River's place in the story. Lily coming to terms with her needs and true desires was well written and realistic. What spoke to me was River's insight as it grows and her journey as an out/closeted Lesbian. Lily's issues with alcohol were presented well and speak to the age old issue of drinking to excess to cope. Lily's mom is a hoot. and brings a sense of silly British humor to the novel. She is seriously refreshing. I found the everybody in love idea refreshing and amusing. I would definitely recommend Lily's Fire to anybody but especially to folks who enjoy coming out books. Once again C. C. Sinclair did a wonderful job making the characters and their individuality so obvious and enjoyable.

A fun getaway

I did not know what to expect when I started listening to this but I quickly fell into place. The characters are believable, inviting and people I want to be with.

While I have not been to Bali, I have been to many similar resorts in Mexico so I felt like I stepped off the plane with Lily.

Lise offers a new life for many of the characters that we have met that is rewarding and credible.

I look forward to hearing more from Lise Gold.
