Summary

The epic conclusion to the Hussite Trilogy by the bestselling author of The Witcher finds Reynevan—infamous magician and disgraced scoundrel—on the run after being sentenced to death by the Catholic Church.

Reynevan is besieged on all sides and faces torture and execution if he makes any mistake in his quest to find his beloved, Jutta of Apolda. Aided by his companions—the ever-pragmatic Scharley and the mysterious being known as Samson Honeypot—his journey takes him all over the Bohemian realm.

And Reynevan will need every ounce of his wit, intelligence and cunning if he is to succeed in his search. The political and religious alliances of the Hussite Wars are ever shifting, and the battle for dominance threatens to devour anyone who gets in their way.

Faced too with dark magical forces summoned by the malevolent Birkart of Grellenort, aided by his terrifying band of Back Riders, Reynevan knows the odds of finding Jutta decrease with every obstacle he is forced to overcome along the way. But he has never let impossible odds stop him before—and he will be reunited with his love, whatever the cost.

Epic Narration

A great finale to the trilogy ! Peter Kenny's narration has been absolutely spot on throughout, I cannot fault his portrayal of characters, pronounciation, and even singing in Latin.
This is a trilogy I can return to and relisten, as it is packed with history, character arcs and story twists. Unlike a lot of fantasy, The Hussite trilogy does not have a huge amount of magic, which gives a more realistic feel when it does occur. I think too much fantasy is overblown and over populated with magicians who seem capable of almost anything - Sapkowski neatly avoids this well worn trope.

Good story but a little rushed

Good story line overall and I felt invested with some of the characters but at times it felt like the story jumped about too much. While most of the time the story kept me engaged, there were times at which it could have been more succinct (long lists of names/titles or off on tangents about politics/religion).

Also felt that the last few chapters were a rush to close the story and so some of the story endings didn’t feel well thought out.

Way too much bloody latin

Light Perpetual by Andrzej Sapkowski. I am a massive fan of Sapkowski's books but this one unfortunately did not meet my expectations. The ending was rushed and the character descriptions all over the place. This confusion was compounded by a profusion of Latin expressions.

The only redeeming aspect of the #novel was @PeterKennyVoice who did as best as he could narrating the sub-par material he had to work with. 📚 3/5 ⭐ #BookReview
