Summary

Cast your mind back to that album that changed your life? The riffs, the hooks, and the lyrics that blew your mind? That movie that moved your whole world and assured you that life was going to be special? Transporting you to a place you'd never been before, the opening chapter of that book that changed your life forever?

The hairs on the back of your neck stood, adrenaline rushed through your entire body with the weight of the world gone from your young shoulders. Energized, inspired, alive, all in and ready to turn up to this wonderfully f--ked up thing we call life.

Close your eyes and remember that feeling right there in that moment?

Life Will See You Now is a rousing, uplifting anthem that will inspire you to put down your phone, rediscover what truly matters, and completely rethink what "making it" in life actually means. A personal development title with a difference - there's no step-by-step guide and no map to change your life - this book provides you with hilarious, real-life inspiration, motivation, and energy to figure it out for yourself and rediscover that wee piece of magic you had when you were just five years old.

JUST READ IT OR BETTER STILL LISTEN TO IT!!!!

I am so inspired by this guy. His stories might make you laugh and make you cry but will absolutely make you say,I think that...I do that...this is me too!
Incredible story and even better on audible as you can hear the passion in the author's voice.

BRILLIANT

I have read all of Gavin’s books and recommend them to friend's and family who are getting in to personal development. Instead of trying to solve their problems or relate to the negativity they have experienced.. simply send them the link to Gavin Oattes book. You will find it helps bring positive change in people for the better. It allows you to connect and work with them on a more meaningful level! The biggest problem is when they ask for your next book recommendation and shine is not on Audible.. 😆💙

Unbearably dire

It's hard to convey, in a few sentences, just how awful this book is. I've trawled through quite a few 'self-help' books in the past few years but this one stands out as in a league of its own. I'm not a fan of the Glasgow accent anyway, but Oattes take the irritation to new heights by dropping pointless swearing in at irregular intervals. He appears to think this gives him some kind of 'authenticity but he gives the game away by forgetting to be sweary for long periods, then launching into it with gusto for no obvious reason. Leaving concerns about the delivery aside, the content is truly vacuous. He spends an entire chapter lamenting his failed stand-up career, even to the extent of relaying, word for word, a media review acclaiming him as a comedy genius (not something you'll see much of in his reviews if you actually read them). There appears to be literally no point whatsoever to this other than to massage his own ego. He also likes to frequently remind you that he has a PhD in Primary Teaching, although the thought of him being allowed anywhere near the malleable minds of young children frightens me to death. The rest of the book (as far as I could suffer it at least) consists of half-baked ideas borrowed from other places and other bits of amateur psychology presented without evidence. Some of his ideas are just nonsensical; witness the idea that you should approach everything in life as if you are waking up at 5 am to grab a holiday sun-lounger; an idea so infantile and banal even he seems keen to abandon it after a few paragraphs of gibberish. The one thing that amused me about this book was his propensity to drop in quotations which sound quite interesting until he reveals that they are by someone called "anonymous". What they actually are is empty, feel-good, soundbites without substance or meaning, which pretty much sums up the whole book quite nicely.

Uplifting, entertaining and thought-provoking

A fantastic book..refreshingly authentic account of life and one man’s experiences of navigating the ups and downs. Super insights into emotions, relationships and the importance of doing what we can to both find and be the good in the world !

Brilliant story narrated with passion

SUCH a great listen! I devoured it in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Loads of tangible aha moments, and a no shit approach (oh, yeah, it's a bit sweary at times but that added to the passion and directness). The author's narration is fantastic too - really great to hear such a personal story direct from the writer. Raw, honest and thought-provoking!

I have already recommended it to a friend and would definitely recommend it to anyone who needs a bit of a re-set and some help seeing the wood from the trees.
