________

Once hailed as Liverpool’s finest detective, Mark Fletcher brought a serial killer to justice and earned the city’s admiration. But when he's accused of working with Liverpool's most notorious crime family, his legacy is shattered – and so is his life.

Now disgraced and spiralling, Fletcher wakes up in a hotel room with no memory of the last 24 hours… and a dead body beside him.

The evidence says he did it. His instincts say otherwise.

Hunted by the force he once served, Fletcher must uncover the truth – not just to clear his name, but to survive. Because someone wants him silenced, and they’ll stop at nothing to finish what they started…

A gripping thriller where the hunter becomes the hunted – perfect for fans of dark twists, morally complex heroes, and relentless suspense.

Critic reviews

‘A tale of family, friendship and fraying loyalties that plays out like a Greek tragedy as its characters’ bad decisions cause the jaws of fate close mercilessly around them. The character and complexity of Liverpool are woven into the fabric a story that grips with pulse-pounding action and relentless tension from the first page.’ CHRIS BROOKMYRE
‘A nail-shredding rollercoaster of a read which will have you in its thrall until the heart-stopping end. Scarily good!’ HELEN FIELDS

If you're looking for a crime thriller that grabs you from the very first chapter and refuses to let go, Liar Liar is exactly that.

The story throws you straight into chaos. Mark Fletcher wakes up beside a dead body with absolutely no memory of the previous 24 hours. From that moment on, the pace barely lets up. Every chapter pulls you deeper into Liverpool's dark criminal underworld, where nobody can be trusted, and every answer seems to uncover another lie.
Luca Veste has created a brilliantly gritty version of Liverpool that's packed with tension, corruption, loyalties, and power struggles. Just when I thought I'd worked out where the story was heading, it completely blindsided me. The twists aren't there for shock value—they're clever, believable, and left me questioning everything I'd assumed.

A huge mention also has to go to Christian Greenway. His narration absolutely elevates an already fantastic book. Christian Greenway's authentic Scouse narration makes every character feel real, every conversation believable, and every tense moment hit even harder. It genuinely felt less like listening to an audiobook and more like watching a high-quality crime drama unfold in my head.

This is one of those rare audiobooks where the writing and narration complement each other perfectly. If you enjoy gritty British crime fiction, memorable characters, relentless suspense, and twists that genuinely catch you off guard, I can't recommend it highly enough. Liar Liar is the start of an outstanding crime series, and I know it's the first of many more I'll enjoy from Luca Veste. An absolutely brilliant listen from start to finish.

I have a hard time telling if this book is good or not because I spent most of the time being annoyed by the narrator. Not that I miss Jonathon Keeble but this guy is the complete opposite in style. Although his voice is lovely, he didn’t do different voices for the characters which made it difficult to follow who was speaking and it was so slow I had to listen on a faster speed. It’s highly unlikely Veste has written a book I wouldn’t enjoy so I’m going to try again with the paperback copy.
