About this listen

The gripping new novel from million-copy bestseller, Mel Sherratt.

The truth can be a dangerous thing…

When a young boy falls from a balcony in a block of flats, DS Grace Allendale witnesses the shocking aftermath of the tragic event. But strangely, no one will admit to seeing anything – and the parents will only tell the police that it was an accident.

Determined to sort the truth from the lies, Grace is thrown into a case that takes her to the darkest corners of the criminal world – and strikes closer to home than she could have ever imagined…

A gripping and pacey thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat from the moment you turn the first page. The perfect read for fans of Martina Cole.

This is a very ordinary story of an estate, the residents and how they are mixed up with crime. It is listenable but not very gripping, no twists or turns in the plot, with everything just sort of sorting itself out in the end to some extent. At parts it’s quite disjointed, some of the characters aren’t really linked, the story ends and then there are following chapters but nothing actually happens much, you keep expecting something to happen to surprise you, but it doesn’t. The narrator doesn’t have a bad voice but reads the whole book in an awful matter of fact tone, like she’s reading news bulletins. I give credit to anyone to write a novel but this one wasn’t really for me, sorry.

Thank you to Colleen Predergast for yet again narrating a fabulous book by Mel Sherratt.
This story eat brilliant, with lots of twists and turns.
I've been waiting for this book to come out for a long time and it was definitely worth the wait.

Fantastic book, narrated superbly.

I cannot believe I made it to the end of this book due to the truly awful narration. She was unable to use different tones, accents, ages or gender for the character voices and most of it sound like a poor audition for Jackanory with her condescending voice. This may be an ok read to while away a few hours but as an audiobook it is sadly lacking.

So to the book itself! Well the characters were one dimensional and the plot rather obvious but the author was able to create some good moments of suspense and tension. My biggest problem was that I just didn’t find any of the characters likeable, not even the investigating police officers. To be honest I found the author to have a rather lacklustre and incompetent opinion of the police force and justice system in general.

If you do want to read this book tho, please do just that... read it. Avoid this incredibly disappointing audio narration.

Average Story, DREADFUL Narration!
