Set three years after A Clash of Fates, the first novella in the Verda universe begins here, with Asher and his intrepid dragon, Avandriell.

I love all of Philip C Quaintrell's books but I did feel the first half of the book was lacking the usual detail that's expect. It felt a bit of a rush with the later end of the story full of action packed which we have come to expect from this series. All in all a lovely story but had potential to be longer.
