About this listen

Find stillness in a countryside cottage where lost letters wait to be read.

This meditative, slow-paced story invites you to join a retired postmaster as he discovers a forgotten box of unsent letters in his attic. By lamplight and soft rain, he opens each envelope—unlocking tender stories of love, hope, and unspoken courage from decades past. Perfect for listeners seeking calming fiction, poetic prose, and a mindful literary escape.

What awaits you:

A gentle evening in a countryside cottage, steeped in warmth and memory

Poetic storytelling that flows like a slow, comforting tide

Sensory-rich descriptions of rain-tapped windows, candlelight, and the scent of old paper

Stories within stories: a clockmaker’s wish, a sailor’s farewell, a summer proposal left unsent

A narrative designed for gentle minds seeking peace at the end of the day

Perfect for:

Bedtime listening – Let the soft prose quiet your racing thoughts

Reflection breaks – A literary pause to breathe and reconnect

Lovers of timeless stories – For those who cherish words that linger like old letters

Slow living enthusiasts – Savor each tender, unhurried moment

Anyone seeking emotional stillness – An antidote to restless nights

This is not a drama or a fast-paced tale.

It is a meditation on connection, memory, and the quiet beauty of words never sent—but never lost.

Audiobook details:

Length: Approx. 1.7 hours long of gentle listening

Style: Literary fiction, contemplative, sensory-rich

Series: Part of the Before Your Dream collection – stories crafted for quiet evenings and tender hearts

Let the letters speak. Let the rain fall softly. Let your mind drift toward peace.

A longer collection of short stories in the Before Your Dream collection. These are both mellow and melancholy, being a collection of wistful stories in the form of lost letters. Whilst some are quite tender, some are quite touching. At almost 2 hours, there's quite a bit more listening here, a couple of last thing at night's listens.
Narrator Peter McGiffen's range of tones suits the 'voices' of the different letter writers, and his rich tones tie the narration together nicely.
