About this listen

The brand new book from bestselling author Marie Kondo explores her cultural roots and reveals the aspects of Japanese culture that are intrinsic to her world-famous tidying method. The six chapters in this book - Cherish, Perfect, Consider, Harmonise, Purify, and Savour - represent guiding principles by which Marie leads her life every day. They also define the values that flow through the arts, rituals, and sensibilities of Japan.

We discover why appreciating the beauty of sakura, cherry blossom, allows for a moment to deeply experience a season through a single entity (Cherish). In the traditional tea ceremony, we see the importance of kiwameru, the Japanese word for achieving mastery or perfection (Perfect). In umami, we taste how something simple and delicious can nourish the heart (Savour). We explore why the things left unsaid, ma, are just as important as the words we say (Harmonise).

The audio edition includes a wonderful introduction narrated by Marie Kondo.©2025 Marie Kondo (P)2025 Bonnier Books UK

I really enjoyed it his book. It exceeded my expectations, being a combination of entertaining, interesting, educational, and energising/life stimulating.
Although I am familiar with a number of these concepts and cultures, this book really helped immerse me in them and added more death from a different perspective. Each chapter is on a different theme, but also they combine together towards a larger theme which enriches life through gaining more value from what is right there before us.
I came away with some enhanced tools for the way of perceiving framing experience.
I expect I will re-listen to this every so often to re-stimulate and re-assimilate.

A lovely and life stimulating book
