Summary

From Nick Alexander, the number one best-selling author of The Photographer's Wife and The Other Son.

Penny and Victoria are about as different as two siblings can be, one with a smart London lifestyle, the other struggling to make ends meet. But they are joined by more than blood, and their shared tragic past is affecting the present more than they realise.

When events begin to tug at the fabric beneath which dark secrets are hidden, the resulting chaos threatens to tear the two families apart. Could there be aspects of the past that youngest child Penny doesn't remember? Could the truth of Marge be more complex than the beloved mother the girls choose to perceive? And could the true story of that terrible Christmas be the key to understanding Victoria, Marge, and much, much more?

A moving new drama from Nick Alexander, Let the Light Shine is a tale of sisterhood, resilience and hope that will have you hooked to the gripping end.

Nick does it again!

As ever, I was captivated by the characters. By the end of the book you want to phone the characters up to see how they are doing.

Poor narration

The overall story was good, but the narration style was annoying to listen to. There were too many "Penny says" and "Vicki says" for the characters. You could tell which character was speaking and didn't need the extra he said, she said added every single time. It took away from the story and got irritating after hearing it so much.

A good read

I enjoyed this book which highlighted some interesting issues in both parts of this family. I wasn't convinced with the voices of the men in particular but generally well read.

Great listen!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and could not put it down until the end, and then only with regret that it had finished.

Another classic by NA

I seem to love everything by NA. I’m not sure why. The storytelling and characters seem to draw me in. This book is about a fractured family and a dark secret. It’s about how abuse in the family can perpetuate and cause long lasting damage to people who appear to be successful and holding everything together. It’s a unique perspective and one which I could relate to. I loved the gentle and clever narration too.

Awful

Almost on chapter 3 but I don't think I'll be going much further so not really able to review the story (although from what I've heard so far I don't think I'll be missing much)

The narrator is terrible!!!

Depressing

A difficult subject but dwells too much on bickering and issues. There is no light in the book. It could have been so much better. I stuck with it but came away disappointed. The reader however was excellent.

Another great insight into family relationships

Enjoyed this book. Easy listening and very easy to relate to the characters.
Second one of NA's I have listened too.
Will definitely go for a third.

Good story but...

I enjoyed the story although the big revelation was predictable. However for me there were far too many ‘he said, she said’ moments. The narrator wasn’t up to much either.

Too much every other words, he said, he says, etc.

Too much of the word “says” for every character. Annoying to me, but maybe if I was just reading it and no listening, it would have been more enjoyable.
