About this listen

A crippled cargo ship drifts helplessly in the face of an oncoming hurricane-force storm. On board, a passenger whose presence means the world is watching. Only the skill, determination and raw courage of a lifeboat crew and the British military forces despatched to save them offer any hope of survival. But set against the savagery of the Atlantic even that might not be enough....

If you could sum up Let Not the Deep in three words, what would they be?

Superb believable compelling

What was one of the most memorable moments of Let Not the Deep?

Witticism from the captain of HMS Defiant, aimed at the master of the Pegasus ULCC after the latter is steaming away after providing valuable shelter from the storm to the rescuers.

What does John Telfer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Sense of having been there and experienced the events, even though fictional.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. The story is quite intense and it is better to draw out the listening pleasure.

Any additional comments?

The story is utterly believable and brings out the awesome courage and commitment of lifeboatmen who do this time after time. I hope it helps to raise awareness of the sacrifices these men make.

This is the first time I have felt compelled to write a review, I came across this book by accident, and it is simply the most stunning and evocative story/listen that I have ever heard! this audio book brought back memories and feelings from my own experiences at sea in such a vivid and compelling way I could not put this away until I finished it! Can't wait to read the rest of his books now!

Simply stunning!

Really enjoyed the story! The ability of the author to catapult you into every situation, blow by blow is amazing. Such is the level of description and the authenticity of the action that I actually cried but I will not say why...... just read the book, you won't be disappointed.
