Summary

How do you go from pulling pints one day, to travelling the world, all-expenses paid the next?

For this author it involved a huge dollop of ketchup, a little bit of growing up, and an extraordinary sequence of events that flings the author on a career path he’d never dreamed could happen.

Throw in the patter of little feet, sharp teeth, amputations, and a smattering of characters from their Tenerife bar days, and you have another serving of ketchup - only this time, it’s a little more salsa.

With the Smugglers Tavern still a nagging ghost of their past, Joe and Joy free themselves from limpet-like patrons, battle once more with Spain’s bungling bureaucracy, and dip a toe in numerous but short-lived careers to stop their bar money evaporating.

Less Ketchup Than Salsa is a true story about growing up, finding your dreams in the most unexpected of places, and discovering what’s truly important in life.

If you’ve ever pondered living abroad, are interested in travel writing as a career, wondered what life is all about, or just want a funny listen in the style of Bill Bryson or Carl Hiaasen...join Joe and Joy on this third and final memoir in the Ketchup trilogy.

Excellent read

This brought together all of the stories that had made up the series and gave a clarity as to where Joe’s writing began. Really enjoyed the book as I did the rest of the series. Made me totally unsociable as I couldn’t switch it off. Slightly saddened the series has come to an end and hope other writing follows.

Irritating narration

Missed opportunity to really describe the horrors of Brits abroad at their worst. An indictment of our eating habits, capacity to get plastered, lack of interest or respect for other cultures. The Smugglers epitomised everything that embarrasses those of us who relish ‘abroad’. Not withstanding it held my interest; I finished it and read the next one.

Superb! Outstanding! Another great listen!

Having eagerly awaited the latest book from Joe Cawley, Less Ketchup Than Salsa did not disappoint. My only regret was that the book wasn't longer! The unique, funny and highly descriptive work of Joe Cawley transports the listener into another dimension of entertainment! The book is superbly narrated by Nicholas Camm - who is, without doubt, the best at transporting the listener into the authentic, amusing and highly entertaining spirit of the story. I simply can't wait for (hopefully) the next book to be written by Joe Cawley and I, as a resident of Tenerife, heartily recommend you to listen to this entertaining and brilliant book. Take a bow Mr Cawley - you deserve all the praise there is for yet another great piece of entertainment!!!

definitely a 10 star author, story and narrator !!

Joe Cawley is very definitely one of my favourite authors, having lived on Tenerife for a short time and having experienced the manana culture and the ex Pat's one upmanship with anyone they come into contact with...ie rental tennants... I can sympathise with him and his family.. overall the book highlights a lighter side to life on that beautiful island in the sun.
thank you Joe , now all I want to know when we get to read the forth book in this fascinating and laugh out loud series..

interesting enough but way to much kitty

I like most of the world has a yearning to get paid whilst on holiday, so that was what interested me at first. I didn't really bond with the characters which made it a bit of a drudge. never the less a good story just needed to bring it to life more. interesting bit was the travel writing boring bit was his obsession with the cat.
