About this listen

 Georg Büchner (1813–1836) gilt als der Frühvollendete der deutschen Literatur. Seine Erzählung, in deren Mittelpunkt der Dichter Jakob Michael Reinhold Lenz steht, schildert sein schrittweises Eintauchen in den Wahnsinn und den verzweifelten Kampf dagegen. Kühn zu nennen ist die Weise, wie uns das Innenleben von Lenz nahegerückt wird. Wir sehen ihn als einen Vertrauten, der uns in der Wahrnehmung von Mensch und Natur eine aufs Äußerste angespannte Empfindsamkeit voraus hat. Peter Michalzik bringt die Bedeutung Büchners auf einen originellen Punkt, wenn er fragt, ob die deutsche Geschichte ohne den frühen Tod des Dichters anders verlaufen wäre.
