Last Stop, Ground Floor is a horror-thriller novel about a young man who learns that spending eternity in the place of eternal punishment for the crimes he committed during his lifetime wasn't what he expected, nor what he could have imagined. It didn't surprise Nick that he ended up in hell for what he'd done, but he wasn't prepared to follow the rules.
Following his execution, Nick is escorted through the caverns of the underworld by Jeffrey, his host, who will introduce the young man to others that have arrived before him. Jeffrey will attempt to teach Nick that there are rules to the underworld that must be followed, the same as there were basic rules in life that Nick always chose to ignore.
Nick will be shown the horrors of what others now endure as a result of their poor life choices. He will also be shown how those horrors can grow far worse if he doesn't play by the masters rules.
The question is, will Nick pay attention? Will he heed the hints and warnings that his mentor is providing? Will he recognize in himself, or through others, just why it was that he was sent to hell? Or, will Nick ignore what everyone is attempting to show him and try to play by his own rules for the rest of his eternity?

I was gifted an Audible code for this, I absolutely loved the cover & the concept so of course I made it a nighttime listen 👌🏻
The last thing Nick remembers is being executed after a mass school shooting, so why is he currently in a random hallway with a strange tall man, that is actually Jeffery Dahmer & he’s giving him a list of rules for what he can/cannot do in hell?
He obviously doesn’t believe Jeffery & his explanations of what death suits what sin each person has committed, until he sees his punishment played out before his very own eyes. He must learn the rules! No pleasure, no food although you’ll feel hungry, no drinks but you’ll be thirsty, no nice scents everything will smell rotten & not another soul insight to speak too for all eternity!!
Hell isn’t designed to be comfortable, it’s designed for torment & punishment…Nicks being shown the full horror of it before being thrown in…
This was so very cleverly done, including known serial killers & giving them the best deaths 👌🏻The justice system that hell gives out is actually something I could get behind 😌
My only criticism would be that he mentioned how time doesn’t exist there soooo many times, it became a bit tedious 🫣 But I did enjoy it all the same ☺️ Check your triggers! ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Nick has just arrived in Hell, having just been put to death after carrying out a horrendous school shooting in which he killed 17 people. He's greeted by his host, who is in charge of showing him around, answering any questions and taking him to his room where he'll spend eternity.
As his host Jeffrey (yes, that Jeffery) slowly takes him through the corridors of Hell, Nick has all the rules of his new home explained to him, none of which he takes seriously, until he's shown what really happens down there. Jeffery explains in detail that anyone who end up there spends eternity in their room waiting for their cycle. Their cycle is when they're tortured horrifically, but as they can not die, the torture is timeless. Once it's over, they're returned to their room to await the next cycle.
Even in their rooms, there is no reprieve. They're to feel starvation but cannot eat, exhaustion but cannot sleep, sexual desire, but they cannot touch. Every possible feeling a body can have has been taken away other than fear or pain.. and they endure this until their next cycle. If rules are broken, their cycle will be made more painful or drawn out.
Jeffrey explains how people end up in Hell and why. He also details that there are wings for specific groups of people - child murderers, cult leaders, Nazis etc and what kind of endless punishment they receive.
Honestly, I absolutely loved this book. I thoroughly enjoy the thought that this is what happens to psychopaths who don't get the justice they deserve when alive. It was so well written, gory, thrilling, and would make such a great movie. It's so incredibly clever, the use and knowledge of historical torture methods was really fun and interesting, and I love anything to do with talking about serial killers!

On stepping out of the elevator he’s greeted by Jeffrey, if you’re into true crime in any way there are plenty of hints as to who this character is. His role is to guide Nick to his eventual room for the rest of eternity whilst also teaching him the do’s and don’ts of the ground floor.
This book gripped me which is interesting to me given the book outcome is obvious from the beginning. There’s suspense and yet no surprises. There’s gore and horror but not in absurd detail. Given the book is essentially a walk and talk between 2 people I was honestly surprised how much I enjoyed it.
Some of the real characters in the book were fairly obviously going to end up in hell but there was also an undercurrent of right and wrong, getting what you deserve and ultimately having the right to choose the path you take. At times it was difficult for me to digest some of the opinions such as mental illness or addiction not being an “excuse”. That I found challenging as it contradicts my own beliefs. Nonetheless, you are left questioning whether people can redeem themselves having committed heinous crimes.
Some of the “jokes” were a little overdone, the time narrative I felt was overdone. However with nicks character there was frustration, disdain, humour and also feelings of sadness for him.
The end of the book was also an intriguing end. Whilst ordinarily having something open ended would frustrate me, there was enough suggestion that you could ultimately make up your own ending based on the question above of what do people truly deserve.
Overall this was an excellent listen, the story was fabulous and the narrator switched between the 2 characters as well as the general dialogue well. I would highly recommend this as a quick listen.
For transparency, I received a copy of the audio from the author. I am however leaving this honest review of my own will.
