Summary
Berlin, 1942.
For four years, the men in field grey have helped themselves to country after country across Western Europe.
For Werner Nehmann, a journalist at the Promi - the Ministry of Propaganda - this dizzying series of victories has felt like a party without end. But now the Reich's attention has turned towards the East, and as winter sets in, the mood is turning.

Well that escalated quickly...
Ok so I might have been slightly distracted by the US president trying to encourage the overthrow of democracy while listening to this but it seemed to pootle along very well for 2/3 but then just went totally bonkers! I don’t want to give spoilers but let’s just say it was a week for Nazis having a bad time.

Boring
I really really wanted to like this and stuck with it despite not enjoying it, hoping something interesting or exciting would be just around the corner. The book is essentially numerous people travelling between Berlin and the eastern front and talking to each other about various issues. There is very little action, excitement or tension, even Stalingrad itself is rarely featured in the plot despite the title. I've a couple of hours left to listen but I'm giving up, I can't persevere with it any more. I appreciate other reviews really like it so clearly other people have enjoyed it, maybe I'm missing something but this book is definitely not for me.
