About this listen

In Flora Thompson's semi-autobiographical series Lark Rise to Candleford, she explores the Oxfordshire country life of her protagonist Laura in the 1880s and 1890s. This collection includes all three works in the trilogy, Lark Rise, Over to Candleford, and Candleford Green.

This is a beautiful, evocative and descriptive collection of tales of a lost way of life in Oxfordshire towards the end of the 19th century.
I thoroughly enjoyed it as someone who was a country girl growing up nearly a century later in the 60s & 70s.
This was nicely narrated. Recommended!
Ps. The popular TV series, which I enjoyed, took quite a lot of liberties with this!

Narrator has a beautiful voice that really brought to life the story. I liked the story because it reminded me of my mum who used to listen to it on the radio

Much better than the tv series

Throughly enjoy these three audiobooks. An interesting look at life in a small hamlet in the 1890s through the eyes of young woman, (the author I understand.) Not the same as the television series, more a personal history. All the characters from the television series do appear without the drama.

Excellent

My wife and I loved the detailed descriptions of life in an earlier time. The web of relationships was sensitively explored. The reader read really well.

A lovely description of how it was

Loved the books! Recommend as it’s an easy listen/read relating to ordinary people of a different era
