I find it hard to express just how much I enjoyed this book. From the very first page, I fell in love with both Bernard and Rory. Bernard, who is over 30 and a big guy, believed he would never find love. Fortunately, his closest friends were determined to help improve his love life. In contrast, Rory was more of a loner, relying only on his family, and felt immense pressure to meet his mother's expectations.

This story beautifully captures the journey of friends discovering love, but it also addresses some challenging themes beyond just the main characters. Following Bernard and Rory as they rekindle their friendship from their initial night together was an emotional experience. Some moments broke my heart, balanced by some swoon-worthy scenes.

I still can't believe this is the author's debut novel, and I am eagerly looking forward to more books in this series. I hope we get to see Kelly and Sean—especially Kelly—get their story next. I would be a very happy reader!

What I really enjoyed is hearing an MM story that provides an alternative voice through Jole Cannon his book. This is all about larger everyday men in their 30s and going beyond just attraction and action.

This, to me, is all about self acceptance for who you are in body and mind, the ups and downs that entails. That each person has their own journey and timeline for that. That hit home, patterns that are so ingrained that they are hard to cchange or fully come away from.

Finding a group that accepts you as you are and accept help when needed. Create a new everyday with old and new friends and family that see you for who you are.
And most off all move away from toxic relations in any form.

The narration/ voicing to me fits the book. Although at some points to me the accents. came across as a bit much. To me it came across that the narrator was fully emerged in the story. ♡


Heads up: do mind the author his warning about scenes and words used that might be triggers.

Reread as audiobook. A new to me narrator who was very good, and was quite enthusiastic in certain scenes.
Story - 4 stars. A really charming debut book with lovely vulnerable MCs. I particularly liked that they were somewhat older and didn't fit the physical looks which were (and still sometimes are) seen as most attractive. They both seemed somewhat innocent and fairly simple down to earth characters, feeling very realistic to me. The cover fits perfectly. Really looking forward to the next book.
