About this listen

When her husband returns from war, the Marchioness of Hawkstone battles for her independence. Less than two weeks after their wedding, Gavin Colporter, Marquess of Hawkstone, left his lovely wife Mollie at home and went off to war with Lord Wellington. Four years later, Mollie has become accustomed to running the estate and doing as she pleases. It's quite a shock when Hawkstone returns and immediately begins to assume his rights and responsibilities as lord of the manor. Can she learn to submit to his authority? What will he say when he hears certain scandalous rumors about her activities in his absence? And can these two near-strangers actually learn to live together as husband and wife?

The heroine is childish, thoughtless and resists her husband attempts to get her to behave more responsibly. The narrator's
male voices are wooden.

Good story badly narrated

Heroine seems not to live in her time. She speaks like a modern woman. The husband isn't even so bad as in those days women were possession. He actually treats her with more respect than she does him. The relationship between her and the brother in law is also very unlikely for that time period, they are too familiar with each other The story itself doesn't seem to have a clear theme. It's just loads of characters just talking, quite boring.

Boring

Reading was not great. Too many unnecessary pauses. Also, while I like assertive heroines, the ways in which she was assertive seemed again period-inappropriate.

Too many ‘sweethearts’…..being a heyer fan, I wasn’t sure this was period-appropriate.
