About this listen

Lady Audley is universally adored: Beautiful, kind, and charming, she enamors all whom she meets. It is not until the strange disappearance of widower George Talboys that her behavior takes an odd turn. George's friend, Robert Audley, Lady Audley's nephew-in-law, is on the case; an upper-class layabout turned detective, he is determined to get to the bottom of things.

Mystery, mayhem, madness, and despair: Lady Audley's Secret is the gripping and suspenseful novel that has been branded "the most sensationally successful of all the sensation novels" (John Sutherland) and rivals some of Wilkie Collins' best books, such as The Moonstone and The Woman in White. Robert Louis Stevenson, Charles Dickens, and Henry James all admitted to reading Braddon's work with great enjoyment; Alfred Lord Tennyson professed to have read everything she ever wrote.

Kim Hicks gives an absorbing reading, full of charm and insight.

The second novel by Elizabeth Braddon which I have read. I eagerly await listening to the next.

A story and narration one never wants to end.

I absolutely loved this book! My interest was held consistently and I didn't want it to end. Such an interesting story - twisting and turning in unexpected directions. Deeply satisfying!

Yes, she is something of an enigma!

This was an intriguing mystery story along the lines of Wilkie Collins by an author I haven’t read before. A bit long on descriptions and moralising for modern audiences but this was enlivened by wry little comments. Such as the descriptions of the noise a metal bed makes when the sleeper turns over, I’ve slept on one in the past and the description was spot on. The narrator did the story justice.

An undiscovered classic.

i like the occassional twists and turns but they are so few and far in between. A lot of fluff and not enough Lady Audley is the only interesting person in this book and you don't see her very often when HER NAME IS THE DAMN TITLE OF THE BOOK????

Narration is..eh. Not too bad. i've heard worse but no Juliet Stevenson or Rosamund Pike. i got this book instead of the Juliet abridged version but given how much filler...I shpuld've just picked the goddess that is Juliet Stevenson to narrate this book.

Story drags and narration could be better
