When Ada Calhoun found herself in the throes of a midlife crisis, she thought that she had no right to complain. She was married with children and a good career. So why did she feel miserable? And why did it seem that other Generation X women were miserable, too? Calhoun decided to find some answers. She looked into housing costs, HR trends, credit card debt averages, and divorce data. At every turn, she saw a pattern: sandwiched between the Boomers and Millennials, Gen X women were facing new problems as they entered middle age, problems that were being largely overlooked.

Summary
The instant Sunday Times best seller
Your worth never changed. Your awareness of it did.
A strong understanding of self-worth is crucial to living an authentic and fulfilling life, yet so many of us have lost that sense of who we truly are and what we are worthy of. On the surface, this may look like low confidence, imposter syndrome, chronic busy-ness, exhaustion, overwhelming emotions, fear or anxiety, but at the core, it's low self-worth.
In her second book, Sunday Times best-selling author and psychotherapist Anna Mathur will set you on a journey towards greater self-worth. Anna uses her personal and professional insight to guide you to a place of balance that will allow you to recognise and appreciate your self-worth, build your self-esteem, grow in confidence and worry less about what other people think.
Using Anna's own experience of embarking on this journey herself, and spending 10 years facilitating her therapy clients to do the same, Know Your Worth will help you to understand why you feel the way you do, what perpetuates it and what the cost of low self-esteem has been for you. It provides the coping mechanisms, habits and tips that will redirect your self-esteem on a healthy and fulfilling upward spiral and help you to escape the relentless desire to 'be better' and 'do more' with the realisation that perhaps you were actually far more acceptable than you first thought.

I, I, I,
Great title. Voice of author clear but unpleasant to listen to. Natural rhythm of language spoilt by forceful emphasizing of words. A professional actors voice might give this a better chance.
After so many sentences starting with “I”.....this I , the listener, quit.

I thought the authors narration of this book wonderful and it keeps it real
Obviously everyone has their own opinions and personal choices after reading the reviews about great book shame the author narrates herself and we don’t like it, I thought I’d leave my review to say I thought she read it wonderfully. I think it keeps it real and she knows how the book should be read as she wrote it! Her pace is just right and her passion to reach out to her readers comes across as very genuine.
Thank you Anna for a great listen.

Rose tinted glasses
I found this book to come from a somewhat privileged standpoint. The examples given were though what I felt very rose-tinted lenses and a more privileged way of life. There was no grit to this, no real-life experiences that many people experienced and suffer from. Even examples of issues faced during childhood were so fluffy and rosey I just couldn't relate. Has a very 'mummy' feel to this book too, so if you're not a mother or could be a trigger for you I do not suggest this title. I do not recommend this book if you also suffered from more than minor parental issues as a child. I found it very frustrating.
The author's voice was nice and easy to listen to as a positive.

Probably the kindest voice in this genre
Sometimes books bash you on your head and tell you with energy that this is what you should do. Not this. This comes at you with such understanding and insight that I catch myself crying in the car while listening to this on the way to work or otw home. It makes you think about your life and doesn't berate or bully you for your feelings. I was fully expecting to drop this somewhere after the first chapter. But I kept listening and listening and before I knew it, it was the end of the book. It was succinct and understanding that the work you do with yourself is long and hard and it's up to you to go at your pace. It is most importantly, kind. The voice is compassionate and can only come from someone who genuinely has struggled herself. Thank you for this. I'll be reading this again. ❤
