Summary

Are you working for cash, a career, a cause - or a calling?

People work for a variety of reasons.

For many, the primary purpose of their work is cash. Their principal motivation is the paychecks that fund their everyday needs. Their work is a means to an end. Others are motivated by ambitions for careers, to move up the professional ladder and expand their experiences, becoming more skilled in particular areas. Still others work for a cause, believing in the wider purpose of their work, attempting to make a difference in the world - to leave a mark in some way.

All of these are legitimate motivations. However, missing from all three is any sense of the value of work itself. The focus is on the output of the workplace rather than on valuing the input.

What we need is calling. Those who see their work as a calling experience a rich integration in their lives. They sense a purpose, a direction to their activities. Work has intrinsic meaning rather than being simply a means to an end. In many ways this is precisely what the Spirit of God does in our lives. When we are in the flow of the Spirit, we are cooperating fully in our God-given callings. When people embrace their callings, they love their work, can manage inevitable tensions that arise, and are welcomed by their colleagues, who sense that there is something beyond the cash or career objectives. But how do we get there?

Only complaint

My only complaint is that Ken Costa didn't narrate the book.

Honestly this is one of the best books I have read to date. He takes the Bible and makes it practical for your everyday (work) life. God does care about our work and our passions. Ken is a wonderful author and great leader!

Please do yourself a favor, read this book!

It will fill your soul

I have been in a slump at work and the results speak for themselves. In a world where goals are your livelihood, Ken Costa explains the spiritual connection our work has to God and the relevance of God’s work through us. This book has given more fuel to move forward with and is a witness to how we should discover our own callings God has set before us.

Great Tools for ReDiscovering Work

Ken Costa does a wonderful job of weaving wisdom the wisdom of personal life lesson with story and inspiration.
Like any book of this direction it won't change you unless you apply the tools outlined and detailed within it's audio pages. Read clearly and confidently; this audio book outlines ways in which God calls and equips anyone to influence and impact all the world.
