Proslulý román se odehrává ve vzdálené budoucnosti, ale jako temná předloha mu posloužilo nacistické Německo. Kallocain je droga pravdy, po jejímž požití každý vyzradí na sebe a na své nejbližší i ta nejskrytější tajemství. Myšlenky a pocity obyvatel už nemají být soukromou záležitostí jednotlivce, ale naopak napomáhají vládnoucím režimům ovládnout lidské vědomí. Hrdinou je objevitel drogy Leo Kall, loajální „souvoják“ plně oddaný ideologii Světového státu. Kniha líčí neúnosný útlak totalitarismu, přináší silné myšlenky a úvahy zabývající se otázkami úlohy státu, moci, osobní odpovědnosti a morálky. Přestože román vznikl v roce 1941, autorka jasnozřivě zobrazila vývoj fašismu i dalších politických režimů, které jsou u moci dodnes.
