They say that History is just one damned thing after another. Welcome to St Mary's Institute of Historical Research - where damned things happen every day.
When Dr Madeleine 'Max' Maxwell is recruited by St Mary's, she finds their methods to be somewhat unorthodox. They don't just study the past - they actually visit it, carefully observing historical events as they unfold in real time.
And not dying. This last part is important.
The whole of History now lies before Max and her new colleagues, but, as she will discover, time travel is never straightforward. Because History doesn't like to be messed with, and danger lurks in every century...
Fast-paced, witty and delightfully unconventional, Just One Damned Thing After Another is the first in Jodi Taylor's beloved and bestselling Chronicles of St Mary's series. For fans of Terry Pratchett, Doctor Who, Genevieve Cogman and Ghosts.

Any additional comments?
This reminded me of Angelmaker and The Girl With All The Gifts, which is definitely not a bad thing. Dystopia, alternative history, gobby protagonist. All good. It's a pacy gallop from mediaeval times to the First World War to the world of the T. rex and then off to Alexandria. It's definitely a "one more chapter before I go to sleep/work/clean up" story. Time travel which isn't time travel, historians armed with manure powered flamethrowers and characters drawn clearly, with humour and who have something of a history are fun. I think I'll be gathering more of this series soon.Time to collect the t

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I read Just One Damned thing after another and was enthralled by the story of Madeline Maxwell and St Mary's. I quickly devoured the rest of the series but nothing could have prepared me for the audio version. The wonderful narration by Zara Ramm makes these amazing books come to life. This is no monotone reading of the book. Ms Ramm brings the characters to life in an amazing way. Every character has their own distinct accent. What also helps is that the book is written in the first person so you really feel that it is Max, herself, telling you of her adventures working for the Institute of Historical Research.
It is quite obvious that the author, Jody Taylor, has a passion for history (and luckily for me she appears to like all the same historical events that I do) as she crams all of her books with beautifully told versions of the events. These books are fast paced, and leave you gasping for breath and of course the St Mary's cure all for all disasters a nice cup of tea.
Best Audio that I have ever listened to
