Nooo!

I've been so excited waiting for the release date of a favourite author's new book. I can't comment on it's content until I have bought it again to read myself. Five minutes in and I can't listen anymore. Wasted my money. I must remember to sample the narrator in future!

Poor narration

Typical Jane Fallon revenge story, not as much of a page-turner as some of her others. However what really spoils this is the narration, which is surprising from a professional actor like Tamzin Outhwaite. It is read rather than performed, some of the meaning is lost due to emphasis being placed on the wrong words, and altogether it sounds like a half-hearted or lazy attempt at reading aloud. Disappointing, on the whole.

Ok

Jane F writing is so engaging. I always look forward to here books because they are an easy listen. Similar template to her last books but found this better that her last book “Worst Idea Ever”
It didn’t blow me away tbh!
The narrator’s voice took a while to get used to.

disappointing

I waited months for this book and was quite disappointed when I listened to it. The storyline was OK, a bit predictable but had a couple of good twists, nothing earth shattering though. My main issue was the narrator. For some reason she didn't differentiate her voice at all between the characters. She literally just read the story. This made it hard to really engage with the characters and plot as you have no idea who's talking! It just came over as a bit of a drone. Such a shame.

Annoying narration

I love Jane Fallon’s books so was really looking forward to this one. It was good, though not her best. The narration however, was really not good and almost ruined the book for me. The narrator is a good actress but sadly that does not make her a good book reader. Her phrasing and emphasis were all over the place, making nonsense of some sentences, and her repeated noisy inbreaths were very off putting. She also made no apparent effort to differentiate between the different characters speaking, using the same voice for all of them. It felt like she either didn’t understand or possibly care about what she was reading, and just wanted to get through it as fast as possible. Sadly this detracted hugely from my enjoyment of this book.
Listening to this did one thing however - it made me appreciate the vast majority of narrators out there, far less famous than this one, but so much more skilled in reading.

The Narration takes a moment to settle

I love Jane Fallon’s books, some of her most recent works have helped me through hours of work and kept me company. Just Got Real is no exception. Wonderful story, a tale of girl power and women supporting women. A real feel good listen. Tamzin Outhwaites narration took me a moment to adjust to. I’m so used to chick lit being read by the girl next door voice that it did, strangely, almost put me off. Once I’d processed the new style of voice it was an easy listen and one finished very quickly. Well done Jane, another wonderful piece of work.

Another great book by Jane

Thoroughly enjoyed this story & Tamzin’s narration, I was nearly put off by other reviews but glad I went for it.

I enjoyed this book, so relevant for this era. Liked narrator felt she got into character better as story progressed

appalling narration - think I'll have to buy the softback!

skipped to end to get rid of this - the narrator is appalling and seems not to understand that emotion, timing, tone, inflection really does matter. never before have I binned a book in the first 15 mins - a real shame because I really enjoy Jane Fallon!! if this is ever re-read by someone else- let me know!

Easy listening and good story

The only downside was the reader. Never changed voice or tone so I couldn’t tell who had said what at times. Apart from that, although not an exciting story, was relaxing easy listening.
