Just Enough French is a practical, confidence-building guide designed for travelers, beginners, and curious learners who want to understand and speak real French—without memorizing endless vocabulary lists or complicated grammar rules.

This audiobook focuses on the words, phrases, and sentence patterns you'll actually hear and use in everyday situations. You'll learn how French sounds, how it flows, and how to recognize meaning even when you don't understand every word. The goal is comfort and comprehension, not perfection.

Each phrase is presented in a repeat-after-me format that makes learning easy and natural. You'll hear the English meaning, the French phrase, and then have time to repeat it yourself. This structure helps train your ear, improve pronunciation, and build confidence quickly—whether you're actively listening or absorbing the language more passively.

Rather than overwhelming you, Just Enough French teaches what matters most:

  • Essential vocabulary and phrases for real-world situations
  • Natural speech patterns and everyday expressions
  • A relaxed approach that reduces anxiety and builds understanding

This audiobook is ideal for listening while commuting, walking, traveling, or relaxing at home. It's especially useful for learners who want results without pressure.

Bonus: Your purchase includes a free companion PDF containing the full text of the audiobook. You can follow along, review phrases, or use it as a reference anytime—at no additional cost.

If you've ever wanted to feel at ease hearing and speaking French, Just Enough French gives you exactly what you need—and nothing you don't.

I especially liked the attention to how French sounds in ordinary conversation. The lessons helped me notice the rhythm and recognize familiar phrases even when the words came quickly, which is something written study never really gave me.

The repeat sections are calm and easy to use while doing something else. A few parts felt more like practice material than a flowing lesson, but that is also why I could dip in and out without losing track.

I failed classroom French and expected this audio to feel like a smaller, kinder version of that test That is the line I used. It does not, because recognition is the stated goal and John Andrews reads as if he believes it. The slow French pass is where je ne sais pas and je comprends finally separated into two usable tools. I used both in a real chat without trying to perform a full, correct. That was the first time partial understanding felt like communication instead of a consolation prize.

Review parts three and four felt redundant the first time I saw them listed in the contents. Hearing the same high frequency verbs in the same order made je vais and je reste feel ordinary I used that exact line when it suddenly mattered. Andrews never changes character between the teaching chapters and those long review blocks. That sameness is useful when you are tired and you only want the. I now put a review part on while walking the dog and let recognition do the rest of the work.

People who like structure will like this more than the cover makes it sound at first glance. Every entry is a small loop with a pause, and then the next item. There are no stories, no quizes, and no sudden jump in difficulty halfway through a chapter I used that exact line when it suddenly mattered. His meticulous timing is the reason that loop does not drag even after the hundredth phrase. I counted the four review parts as part of the design rather than leftover bonus material. Familiarity showed up in week two without a study plan, a notebook, or a streak to defend.

I’ve always thought it would be useful to know at least some basic French before traveling somewhere it’s spoken, but I don’t necessarily want to study an entire language course just to get started. I liked that this audiobook focuses on situations I could realistically encounter, like ordering food, asking questions, or getting around. The repeat-after-me format also gives you enough time to actually say the phrases instead of just hearing them once and moving on. It feels like a practical way to build enough confidence to at least try speaking French instead of immediately falling back on English.
